M5 [Official] The BMW Concept M5

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

The 1M gets away with it because its a limited run, cheap entry model, so I can see the economics behind it. The M3 and M5 are the flagship M models.

Fair point actually!

The V10 in the M5 was used for the M5 Sedan & Touring, M6 Coupe & Convertible......and that's it.

M is utilizing the V8TT in the X5M & X6M, M5 Sedan, possibly M5 Touring, M6 Coupe, M6 Convertible, and M6 GranCoupe. Nearly twice as many models, so you'd think BMW would give M the budget to develop a unique powerplant.

I imagine when it comes to forced-induction engines, the key is (as the name suggests) the forced-induction portion of the powerplant, and focusing on that particular aspect is where most improvements can be made.
We see with the N54 in the 1M, that M mostly tweaked the software...I'm excited to see what all that heavy-duty work on the V8TT will deliver for the M5!

The E92 M3 and E60 M5 had unique engines, so I see the F10 M5 as a step backwards!

I think this is Singapore Grey.. I saw it on the option list but couldn't figure out what kind of grey it is..

It is not the final car , in fact it is far from the final car.
We took the official pictures and video at the turn of the year so we had little to play with.

We did not show the interior at Garching or Shanghai because of this .
The media got lucky @ Shanghai when the car was being in the process of being moved to it's enclosure for the duration of the show.

Since the car has arrived in Singapore it seems they have opened the car for viewing. which they should not have done because it is not the final car.

^^^ it might be different on very, very, VERY small details, but for the rest?
Don't waste your time trying to make us believe it's not the final M5 interior.
An M5 always has a 'simple' 5er interior with sporty seats and some M logos/speedo to begin with...

No more M button on the steering? Or is it missing just because its a concept car?

Like Scott said, this is FAR from the final M5 interior. For example, the buttons around the gear lever are from a standard 5 Series, such as the dynamic drive toggle. We saw in videos posted of the M5 being tested on the frozen lake, and in photos of mules taken in California, the final M5 will have a very different layout at the base of the gear lever with many more buttons to control the steering settings, the damping etc. With that will come an M button I imagine.

See the interior shot in this post:

Erm, thats not what cashmere was asking. Scott is indeed correct, the final production M5 will have a different layout in terms of switches and the M button.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
