GT [Official] The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

How many times have car manufacturers “listened” to the owners only to complete f#ck it up?

So they said alot of people they asked said it wasn’t practical enough and too wide.

Generally if you need something practical you do not buy a sportscar.

Meanwhile people who want a sportscar want it to be a sportscar.

We like it because its so wide, and the bonnet so long.

So now we have a product that still isnt really that practical and isnt that great of a sportscar.

It has no USP. Why would you now buy a GT63?

Its the slowest of the bunch, has no USP in its design, the aston is basically the same price and has a more powerful benz engine…

Who is this car for?

We did a survey on the current owners about the new car, and no one gets it.

I guess time will tell, when sales figures start to be released.

The SL is already a failure. Infact I parked my GTR next to one and the SL just looked plain and dumpy.
Of course. And I conducted a large-scale survey among GT drivers, and 99% would immediately choose the new model. Who should verify my data or yours?

I find the GT absolutely fantastic. Great proportions, top traction, a design to die for, and absolutely glowing reviews. In addition, there will be a whole range of further models with more powerful engines and even more track-focused versions in the future.

Unfortunately, your Nissan GTR has gotten so old, it will never be a threat to any SL enthusiast.

Thankfully I have never owned a overweight nissan GTR.

I was thinking about this GT63s again.

And I just dont see the point.

4wd, 4.0v8TT, 577hp, 19xxkg

Its basically a 4 door gt63/e63s/rs6/m5comp without any of the practicalities of those cars and without any of the benefits of the old car ie lighter, rwd, better weight distribution, more exotic looks.

Just seems like an own goal to me. Why would you buy this? On paper its not making sense and its not a design that tugs on your heart strings either.

We needed a AMG vision GT, not a coupe 63s

Can't agree more.

I'm looking at AMG GT like SL with fixed roof. Which is pointless.

I think SL Facelift would be perfect choice for people who want amg gt for exotic purposes.

They should have made a Roadster out of the S class and call it SL. Making it an AMG product was insane from day one.

I must admit, while I like the new GT and its combination of looks and added usability, I am going back to the position that the last GT was way more special when it came to being a sports car. I am likely going to plan on getting a second hand old GT C Coupe in the market.

The more I think about the GT/SL, I see move value owning the SL and its added open versatility. I hate open cars in general and the compromises they bring (cowl shake, tupee look) but for a special occasion automobile, I can’t see the cost worth it. The older GT, in this case, appears more “special”, with its comprmises.

Could it be AMG can still bring a halo car, perhaps closer to the prior SLR level?

They will probably try. There's more competition than ever in this space now, so they need to stand out.

Ok I have some great news.

So the new AMG GT, was never intended to be a real AMG GT replacement.

Mercedes need a new platform for their next GT3 car and the new AMG GT is all wrong. Engineers said its too heavy, gearbox in the wrong place etc etc.

The new GT3 car has to be better than the existing one and the New AMG GT just isnt from a sporting point of view.

So mercedes will be releasing a new sports car and GT3 racecar that its based off in 2026.

So the rumours of s SLS return/replacement is sounding true.

This rumour is what I was told via AMG engineers whilst at an event in europe off record.

Well I guess that explains why the GT has been softened up.
Is the replacement gonna continue using a heavily modified MSA? Or brand new platform?

If its the latter, I hope its nice and light <1500kg.
I hope they make a proper AWD 911 Turbo S fighter on the platform too.

Pipe dreams.

I hope that’s true but I don’t completely believe it. If it’s true, we should be seeing mules before the year is up. Otherwise sounds like a pipe dream.

Well the current GT had test mules that used a modified S-class Coupe bodyshell.
They could be using the current GT43 bodyshell to test a different platform.

Clutching at straws. If this does exist, then we should be seeing it in the Nurburgring imminently if its due for a 2026 release.

I have another friend who is a AMG GT3 mechanic, and he said when the amg gt got released mercedes was thinking to make a evo 2 update because the new platform was too heavy to be a gt3 car and that mercedes was undecided if they would build a new car.

Mercedes AMG racing programme boss has been on record saying that they are working on a new racecar

Fascinating info.

Perhaps you could ask your friend if he has any information regarding upcoming AMG roadcars. Such as the AMG.EA cars, the electric 4 door GT and large sport/luxury electric sport activity crossover.

They wont know any of that as these guys only deal with AMG GT3 race programmes

I feel that the C217 will become a collector classic in time… what a good looking car that was
The A217 Cabriolet is pinnacle Mercedes-Benz. I remember sitting in one a few years ago. and it just felt "right." An S550 Cabriolet is just the perfect car. As an aside, the C/A238 E-class Coupe/Cabriolet were just shy of perfect.

A new car is coming.

AMG one lite with a proper v8 engine?

Another long bonnet SLS?

Comments are telling, the current cars mercedes have for sale wouldnt even be competitive of suitable for GT4 racing

While the Vision C One Eleven is originally intended to be a testbed for new electric drivetrain technology (axial flux e.motors, innovative battery tech, etc.), the cars body could serve as a template of sorts for a future GT3/4 race car. Or ?? Maybe ??

It's platform wouldn't make sense.

I think Mercedes would probably want to continue down the front/front-mid engines formula as so much of their racing history stems from it.

Either they're gonna make a new platform based on the old SLS/GT platform, or they're going to heavily modify MSA to make it work.

The former would probably be easier and faster to market. But I think there would be value in making MSA a more flexible platform to suit different types of sports car. Though I assume this would require compromises.

Who knows. Clearly a homologated racecar is on the menu. So we'll see in a few years what that shapes into.
