Model S [Official] Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is a battery-electric, four-door full-size car produced by the American automaker Tesla since 2012. The automaker's second vehicle and longest-produced model, the Model S has both received mixed reviews from critics and also been described as one of the most influential electric cars in the industry.
As previously mentioned, this will keep Porsche (and VAG) on their toes. Be it solely for the sake of bragging rights. Surely, there will be some brainstorming in session-I assume in collaboration with Rimac. A 750kw super-Taycan or perhaps Audi eTron GT (or a later PPE based 4 door car from another VAG brand ?) appears an inevitablity. Bragging rights.

I question how many potential buyers of large, sport/luxury 4 door BEV automobiles are going to be significantly influenced by Nürburgring lap times. The ability to travel long distances of over 700 km on one charge with sustainable frequent long Autobahn segment 200 km/h+ speeds in comfort and silence is the future criteria that is ultimately paramount.

Is the roll cage and racing bucket standard on the Taycan?

Tesla Model S Plaid Obliterates Porsche Taycan's Nurburgring Record

Sorry... I like Tesla A LOT but this is laughable.
99% tint on windows(even windshield) to hide the 90% stripped interior.
Almost nothing on this car has anything to do with the production version... Tyres, breaks, drivetrain, body kit, interior and I'm willing to bet suspension and cooling too...
Elon certainly doesn't grasp what a "production car record" actually means.
Absolutely laughable!

PS: Yes, Taycan has a roll cage and lots of video recording equipment which might make the car a tiny bit stiffer but also adds weight. I'm not saying their car was 100% stock either but at least they didn't lap a race prepped car to claim a production car record.
That's something just about any company can do but has little to no value...

Well

And you know for a fact that the PRE-production Taycan Porsche used (in their own words) was 100 percent stock. I'll remind you that they're not above cheating. Dieselgate anyone.

A week or so ago a lot of people was claiming that Tesla couldn't. even complete a lap of the 'Ring. Now that it has, the goalposts have shifted to the tyres, wing and stripped out interior.

If a small company like Tesla beats Porsche at the 'Ring, that is a towering achievement. Let's wait for the official lap.

Btw, isn't the Manthey racing GT2RS also modified?

Well

Please read my post before you reply to it.
I know for a fact that the Taycan WASN'T 100% stock.
A stock Model S would still have a hard time completing a full lap at the ring... let alone one under 8 minutes. I'd bet the Taycan faced similar problems and was handicapped throughout most of the lap... otherwise one would expect it to be Panny Ts fast instead of C63s fast.

That's correct. We know the Taycan was also not stock. The good thing is that the Nurburgring has officialized the record setting and the list is here: Record drives/ Lap times - Nürburgring

Tesla couldn't endure a whole lap with the old A synchronous induction motor at the back axle. From 2019 on the model S uses at the rear axle the motor from Model 3, which is switched reluctance motor, that has no overheating or endurance issues. For Nring they are using a future version with two such motors at the rear axle and Porsche would not be able to counteract with its outdated el motor with neodym permanent magnet rotor. Tesla is 10 years ahead again.

Concerning the interior of the Tesla - Musk said (if we can believe him) that this is the seven seat version. Just imagine what humiliation to Porsche it would be if the car is not stripped out but has seven seats.

One thing I like about Elon is that he takes Competition seriously and acts on it rather than debate in a committee.

By the time Roadster laps the Ring that overall record will be into 5 mins. Especially when Valkyrie or AMG One does their laps. If a modded out Model S can do 7:23 I have no doubts that the Roadster can do below 7s. But it will nowhere be as fast as NIO or SVJ. Close maybe.

Yes, I'm aware.
Batteries tend to overheat.
El. Motor will be fine.

PS: About the 7 seat configuration... yes, that makes a lot more sense now.
He took his whole family on a tour around the ring and tinted the windows just so his grandma doesn't get blinded by the sun.

PS2: I'm out.

"7 seats" is just for marketing reasons and EM trying to humiliate Porsche.
The 2 extra seats probably weight like 4kg each, if that.

I wouldn't want my children to seat on them, in case of a rearend crash. And it seems claustrophobic, window is too close.

Tesla’s Super-Fast Model S Prototype Shows Its Gutted Interior In New Spy Shots

reportedly already set a 7min 23sec lap time, which is 20 seconds faster than what Porsche did with the Taycan.

Tesla has been running tests on the Nurburgring with at least two Model S “chassis prototypes” that’s said to be fitted with their next-gen “Plaid” powertrain.

We’ve heard that the cars come with a gutted, completely empty interior, featuring just the driver’s seat, the dashboard and a safety roll cage, but the heavily tinted windows prevented our spies from verifying it – until now.

Our photographers were able to snap a few shots that expose the stripped cabin through the tinted glass. We can clearly see that the blue Model S comes indeed with just the driver’s seat, while part of the roll cage is also visible through the rear glass.

With the help of a stopwatch by a bystander, the red Model S prototype was the quickest of the two during their time on the track, achieving a 7min 24sec lap over Nurburgring’s entire 20.8 km distance, not just Bridge-to-Gantry as speculated earlier. Using the same method, the blue car managed a 7min 40sec time.

Both prototypes were fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport RS tires as before, while the driver of the red one was Thomas Mutch, a German racing driver and Nurburgring expert.

It’s pretty obvious that we still can’t draw any conclusions about Tesla’s quest on beating Porsche in their own turf. The two prototypes will eventually morph into a production version towards the end of next year, but their totally stripped interiors means that they are enjoy a significant weight advantage over the Porsche Taycan, which is a normal, series-production model.

On the other hand, Elon Musk himself has said that they will try to set a lap record with a seven-seat Model S, so you can bet Tesla will return with a fully equipped car. For now, though, the Taycan is the electric four-door saloon king of the Nordschleife.

Not sure what you are talking about... I can clearly see at least 9 seats in there
