Model 3 [Official] Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 is a battery electric powered mid-size sedan with a fastback body style built by Tesla, Inc., introduced in 2017. The vehicle is marketed as being more affordable to more people than previous models made by Tesla. The Model 3 was the world's top-selling plug-in electric car for three years, from 2018 to 2020, before the Tesla Model Y, a crossover SUV based on the Model 3 chassis, took the top spot. In June 2021, the Model 3 became the first electric car to pass global sales of 1 million.
It's 59.990

I mean 500hp particularly EV hp is perhaps already way too much. It puts pressure on the top end models then and they'll be going to 1MW plus!

They could have made it 600hp and everybody would have been happy

510 hp is exactly what the older Performance had.

This means the powertrains are the same ( maybe a few tweaks for efficiency ) .

It's lazy from Tesla. And the delay it's just , AGAIN , to keep the hype up...

By the way , this is the first time ( since Plaid ) , when they show the power output of a model. Because they want to make it feel like it's something else , but it's not...

The last Performance did not had . And the Model Y Performance does not show any power output ( because is the same )

The rear drive unit is apparently new.

Also the old Performance was claimed to have 455HP, though dynoed more. Probably the same again, the real power is probably more than the claimed 510 HP.

513PS for M3 Perf.
Registering a car in most if not all EU countries requires stating the engine/motor power.
513PS is what Tesla states in these documents.
The 455HP for 2019 was updated/revised in 2020 afair.

How come my 22' Model 3 LR in Norway is rated at 498hp?

A dual motor LR isn't much different than a Performance but I honestly can't tell you why and how Tesla rates your car at 366kw. You are correct though as this was the number from Tesla's official site.

Because he is a tech influencer?
I could as well ask my gym manager's opinion.

Crazy times.
He's one of the preeminent tech reviewers on YouTube - astute, informed and very successful as a result.
The line between cars and tech has been blurring ever since electronics were introduced into cars. Now with EVs, it's so much more about tech than old school automobilia.
Nowadays, if you're to do a thorough review of a car you need to be proper tech-savvy; put it this way - a dinosaur like Clarkson's review would be pretty much meaningless whereas someone technically-oriented like Metcalfe has so much more insight to offer.
Compared to the trust-fund baby clowns out there reviewing cars, MKBHD is a beacon of intelligence.

Yeah whatever, to each his own.

I just dislike all the influencer BS. That's all it is, and they all are self proclaimed.

How's that any different to what the erstwhile motoring journalist was? An influencer, in print.

Well, most went to actual school first.

All this cross dicipline posting for the sake of getting your face out there in the algoritm doesn't sit well with me.

Apparently new could mean just efficiency tweaks.

Power , as far as I know , is the same. And even if it wasn't , 10-15hp difference would make almost 0 difference....

We will see the teardowns and see the differences. Probably Sandy or Autoline Network will get inside it ASAP.

But yea , lazy as heck. Tesla is on a downtrend. Looks like they like what automakers do ( almost no real/beneficial improvements generation over generation ) , and they think they can do it the same . But it does not work like that....( sales are dropping )

And who says he didn't go to an actual school? Or get a degree thereafter?

Getting your face out there in print media was still a thing you had to do. And you did it by being good at what you produced.
Nothing's changed. Only the medium.

No I meant like journalism school. He no doubt has a great CV, with plenty of education.

But anyways, let's agree to disagree.
Yes, let's.

PS. He has a Bachelor of Science degree, for the record.

a. Are you saying if I register an M5 in Europe, I have to state the actual HP it makes and not the manufacturer's understated ~600 whatever BMW claims?

b. Even if so, what we have now is the equivalent of 455HP - a published number. Maybe later when the car is registered in Europe we will have the new actual HP. Reviews say the new car makes "22 percent in continuous power, 32 percent in peak power, and 16 percent in peak torque". Maybe Tesla is lying but I am sure someone will dyno it soon enough.
