Model S [Official] Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is a battery-electric, four-door full-size car produced by the American automaker Tesla since 2012. The automaker's second vehicle and longest-produced model, the Model S has both received mixed reviews from critics and also been described as one of the most influential electric cars in the industry.
I doubt it is more than 2-3 laps back to back. And as Klier implied, Ring taxi has endless supply of ceramic brakes and continuous factory maintenance and checks. Stupid comparison.

Aside, have to love the moving goal posts - First it was, EVs are slow, then it was only fast in a straight line, can't go fast around a track. Now it is, but can it continuously lap, next up, can a stock family sedan do 24hr race? What a bunch of wankers.
Have you lapped the Ring? Why is that stupid? For some people, although a very small number, EVs will currently not work for their entertainment. There’s nothing wrong with that. Nothing is perfect. I believe EV is the future. I think it’s time to acknowledge shortcomings and not praise Tesla to heaven and back like fanatics following a cult leader. Let’s face it - until we see Tesla or other EVs lapping the Ring like the ICE cars, a couple years minimum will pass. And that’s totally ok! It’s still an amazing car. I’m making a point to stay objective and not take every loss personal.

I don't even know if encouraging is enough at this point. Don't think there is any better German EV than the Taycan out there, and this Plaid model has just cleaned the house. Can't see anything coming to the market that can top it.

On the cheaper side of the line up also does not look like the Germans are coming with something as competitive as the Model 3 either. Right now the good thing form them is that the Model 3 interior sucks big time. But if Tesla manage to facelift the Model 3 interior in the same way they have done with Model S maybe I will be buying one myself.

Porsche will probably figure out performance. But efficiency, range and charging infrastructure will lag for a while.

And yes, the cheaper models are more worrying. I don't see anyone besides VAG and the Koreans even trying seriously. This year Tesla will sell 700k Model3/Y. A market the German 2 just gave up without even trying so far. I don't see a dedicated EV (not gimped ones made on ICE platforms) in the segment from BMW/MB even in the horizon.

Mercedes' MMA platform is for this segment but they're not going to be producing models on that platform until 2024. Apparently that's supposed to a fully mature, electric-first effort that will be underneath every C-class and below vehicle into the next decade.

BMW's "neue klasse" architecture will also address this class of vehicles and launches in 2025.

I have been to enough track sessions to know many M and AMGs, stock can't do more than 20 - 30 min sessions before overheating brakes/engines.
And It is stupid because you are comparing ring taxi - which a commercial venture that probably replaces brakes, tires and suspension parts frequently to draw conclusions what a private car can do.

Yes and it makes no sense to compromise the car to entertain some microscopic minority who will take a 4000lb+ sedan to the ring let alone try to lap continuously.

Too late, IMHO.

Truth is, the overall performance of this car is just out of question. It is just faster and cheaper than any other alternative.

Not alternative even. Faster than pretty much any car period. And this only is the beginning of the electric revolution. Minds will bend in 20 years, and an ICE car will be a total relic from another era, completely worthless and obsolete except for a few classics.

I said it earlier, the Germans are damn lucky Tesla decided to just mildly facelift the Model S instead of bringing an all new car. But I get Musk, there is no need for a new model when nothing touches the current. Same for Plaid+.......no need.

Ola seems to think the same. If the rumors swirling now are true, he's supposed to be making an announcement by end of summer that ICE models are going to be dropped quickly and the due dates for their EV replacements are being moved up. Nothing is official yet, but the Model 3-competitor could be hitting the road sooner.

Should instead of could.
The new C class is already forgotten. Totally old before launch. No electricity in sight. Mindblowingly retarded. Lovely car for an ICE museum; the last of it's kind.

Makes senses. I am not expecting any of MB cars to have an ICE successor. Maybe the models below the C-Class survive another generation. I am curious to see if we will really see a W214 E-Class.

Considering hiw fugly MB's EVs are right now, I think we all should be worried.

The design of these EQ cars is the worst thing to ever happen to MB design imo. And the sad part is: the newer the EQ, the uglier it becomes.
That dude Gordon is long overdue. Loooooooong overdue.

killing ICEVs before bringing BEVs is dumb. they are not Tesla, they have to transition. they had to make HEVs and PHEVs when Toyota and Honda did, instead of making V12 diesels.

bringing BEVs without charging infrastructure and payment system is dumb too. Tesla did not sell only BEVs, they also provided plugs, that is why they are no.1, they did not wait for anyone to put plugs.

the governments are asking ICE makers to make BEVs. but who makes the plugs?

the whole discussion here is not honest. BEV performance and 100% BEVs worldwide are two different topics.

from a performance perspective no criticism against the S Plaid is valid anymore. now that the BEV has conquered to road, the next step is conquering off-road. S Plaid beaten the M5, who will beat the Landcruiser?

but every other BEV aspect has no place in this thread.

Electrek reports on Musk saying there will be no progressive steering for a few years with the yoke being the only option and that "It's great!" in his own words.
Great car but this is a moronic decision and a 100% deal breaker if you ask me.

That’s a deal breaker for me as well. I’m not even going to bother.

I don’t agree with you often but you’re on the money here.

Yea, he better make it happen. 2025, Tesla is projected to sell 3+ million vehicles. That will make them bigger than MB, BMW unless those two get their shit together soon. And if not, how the execs will have a job after will be fascinating.

About the silly yoke, I am far from convinced, but the same guy seen stumbling with the Yoke in the earlier video says he is now used to it after 400 miles -

But what is getting their shit together? Porsche had made an effort and has put a fullly capable EV in the market in 2020. Yet, the Taycan is clearly not on the same level than the new Model S. On any account I would say. Can BMW release something in 2025 that will be able to compete at the same level than what Tesla has by then?

We were all expecting the Germans to catch up and even surpass Tesla. Yet that is not happening.

Just.........no. These are blatant lies. This man has an agenda. Paid by Tesla. Whatever. The YOKE is a terrible JOKE.
400 miles in a straight line on a boring American highway can even be done without a steering wheel in a Tesla, so this doesn't tell me anything. I'd love to see this man park his yoke in a busy European street. That'd be hilarious. But we won't see it, because there's no way this is going to pass EU legislation

We were all expecting the Germans to catch up and even surpass Tesla. Yet that is not happening.

They will if they survive the upcoming onslaught. The positive thing is that creating a good electric engine/battery is way less difficult than making an amazing ICE. Catching up in the ICE drivetrains is impossible as proven many times in many decades, but catching up with BEV will prove to be quite easy. It'll be like making a new better phone or laptop. Tech will be there for everyone to use, without millions of patented parts and ideas like ICE has.
