What?
Are you stuck in 2015 or something?
No, because I drive a diesel. I'd still be stuck in 2015 if I were an EV driver. Shit! Battery still hasn't reached 100%...

Have you lapped the Ring? Why is that stupid? For some people, although a very small number, EVs will currently not work for their entertainment. There’s nothing wrong with that. Nothing is perfect. I believe EV is the future. I think it’s time to acknowledge shortcomings and not praise Tesla to heaven and back like fanatics following a cult leader. Let’s face it - until we see Tesla or other EVs lapping the Ring like the ICE cars, a couple years minimum will pass. And that’s totally ok! It’s still an amazing car. I’m making a point to stay objective and not take every loss personal.I doubt it is more than 2-3 laps back to back. And as Klier implied, Ring taxi has endless supply of ceramic brakes and continuous factory maintenance and checks. Stupid comparison.
Aside, have to love the moving goal posts - First it was, EVs are slow, then it was only fast in a straight line, can't go fast around a track. Now it is, but can it continuously lap, next up, can a stock family sedan do 24hr race? What a bunch of wankers.
I don't even know if encouraging is enough at this point. Don't think there is any better German EV than the Taycan out there, and this Plaid model has just cleaned the house. Can't see anything coming to the market that can top it.
On the cheaper side of the line up also does not look like the Germans are coming with something as competitive as the Model 3 either. Right now the good thing form them is that the Model 3 interior sucks big time. But if Tesla manage to facelift the Model 3 interior in the same way they have done with Model S maybe I will be buying one myself.
Porsche will probably figure out performance. But efficiency, range and charging infrastructure will lag for a while.
And yes, the cheaper models are more worrying. I don't see anyone besides VAG and the Koreans even trying seriously. This year Tesla will sell 700k Model3/Y. A market the German 2 just gave up without even trying so far. I don't see a dedicated EV (not gimped ones made on ICE platforms) in the segment from BMW/MB even in the horizon.

Yes and it makes no sense to compromise the car to entertain some microscopic minority who will take a 4000lb+ sedan to the ring let alone try to lap continuously. For some people, although a very small number, EVs will currently not work for their entertainment.
Mercedes' MMA platform is for this segment but they're not going to be producing models on that platform until 2024. Apparently that's supposed to a fully mature, electric-first effort that will be underneath every C-class and below vehicle into the next decade.
BMW's "neue klasse" architecture will also address this class of vehicles and launches in 2025.
Truth is, the overall performance of this car is just out of question. It is just faster and cheaper than any other alternative.
Too late, IMHO.
Ola seems to think the same. If the rumors swirling now are true, he's supposed to be making an announcement by end of summer that ICE models are going to be dropped quickly and the due dates for their EV replacements are being moved up. Nothing is official yet, but the Model 3-competitor could be hitting the road sooner.

Makes senses. I am not expecting any of MB cars to have an ICE successor. Maybe the models below the C-Class survive another generation. I am curious to see if we will really see a W214 E-Class.
Considering hiw fugly MB's EVs are right now, I think we all should be worried.
Electrek reports on Musk saying there will be no progressive steering for a few years with the yoke being the only option and that "It's great!" in his own words.
Great car but this is a moronic decision and a 100% deal breaker if you ask me.

nothing touches the current
I don’t agree with you often but you’re on the money here.killing ICEVs before bringing BEVs is dumb. they are not Tesla, they have to transition. they had to make HEVs and PHEVs when Toyota and Honda did, instead of making V12 diesels.
bringing BEVs without charging infrastructure and payment system is dumb too. Tesla did not sell only BEVs, they also provided plugs, that is why they are no.1, they did not wait for anyone to put plugs.
the governments are asking ICE makers to make BEVs. but who makes the plugs?
the whole discussion here is not honest. BEV performance and 100% BEVs worldwide are two different topics.
from a performance perspective no criticism against the S Plaid is valid anymore. now that the BEV has conquered to road, the next step is conquering off-road. S Plaid beaten the M5, who will beat the Landcruiser?
but every other BEV aspect has no place in this thread.

Yea, he better make it happen. 2025, Tesla is projected to sell 3+ million vehicles. That will make them bigger than MB, BMW unless those two get their shit together soon. And if not, how the execs will have a job after will be fascinating.
About the silly yoke, I am far from convinced, but the same guy seen stumbling with the Yoke in the earlier video says he is now used to it after 400 miles -
We were all expecting the Germans to catch up and even surpass Tesla. Yet that is not happening.
