Fortwo/Forfour [Official] Smart ForTwo & ForFour

The Smart Fortwo (stylized as "smart fortwo") is a two-seater city car manufactured and marketed by the Smart division of the Mercedes-Benz Group for model years 1998–2024, across three generations - each using a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and a one-box design. The Smart Forfour (stylized as "smart forfour") is a city car (A-segment) marketed by Smart over two generations. The first generation was marketed in Europe from 2004 to 2006 with a front-engine configuration, sharing its platform with the Mitsubishi Colt.
The white interior of that navy blue one looks great and I like the unusual bronze metallic colour! It is a funky cool car!

2015 Smart ForTwo & ForFour
Start at £11,125
Smart has disclosed full UK pricing details for the all-new fortwo and forfour scheduled to go on sale early 2015.

The cheapest fortwo kicks off at £11,125 whereas the forfour begins at £11,620, with both of them being powered by a tiny three-cylinder 1.0-liter naturally aspirated engine delivering 71 HP (52 kW) and 91 Nm (67 lb-ft). If you want a little bit more muscle, opt for the three-cylinder 0.9-liter turbocharged gasoline motor developing 90 HP (66 kW) and 135 Nm (100 lb-ft) which is available for the moment only in the fortwo from £11,720.

At an additional cost, the fortwo can be configured with a dual-clutch six-speed automatic gearbox priced at £995 which replaces the standard five-speed manual transmission. It will later on be offered in the forfour along with the turbocharged engine.

In terms of equipment, the base passion trim comes with eight-spoke 15-inch alloys, automatic climate control, Bluetooth and an orange/black or white/black interior theme. Up next is prime (an extra £695) which has five twin-spoke 15-inch black rims, panoramic glass roof, black leather upholstery, lane-keeping assist, heated seats and extra dashboard instrument pods with a cockpit clock and rev counter.

The proxy trim is available for the same money as the prime but is distinguished by eight Y-spoke black 16-inch alloy wheels, panoramic glass roof, blue & white interior, lane keeping assist, sports leather multifunction steering wheel, 10mm lowered suspension, chrome exhaust finisher and rubber-studded alloy pedals.

Also available are Premium (£795) and Premium Plus (£1,295) packages bringing extra goodies such as rear parking assistance, navigation, height-adjustable heated steering wheel, electrically-adjustable mirrors, ambient lighting, LED headlights, rearview camera, coming home function and rain & light sensors.

Lastly, there’s also an edition 1 available for both models which includes both aforementioned packages, different exterior color schemes and velour mats with edition #1 embroidery. Prices stand at £13,225 for the 71 HP fortwo, £13,820 for 90 HP fortwo and £13,720 for the 71 HP forfour.

I really like this Smart. I hope it's a good car underneath and a sales success for Mercedes sake. They can then look at growing the brand.

I drove the 66w/90ps one, and it was pretty nippy, much smoother than the old Smart, no more head nodding. The gears were pretty easy, very easy to change etc. I would still get the auto, since it's a city car.

It would be interesting to drive a more powerful model. I think I'll probably wait for a Brabus edition. Some parts of the interior are cheaper feeling than the old one, I guess those are the Renault parts. I hate the gear stick for example, I hope the Brabus gets it's own.

I was thinking of getting one and pimping it, or just getting the tailor made.

All in all, it feels like a more grown up car, and you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in any small car, so in that way it is less uniquely 'smart'. Though that is probably also a good thing for it's driving dynamics.

Are you thinking of getting one, is it coming down under ? How's your car, did it survive the big storm ? Hope everything is ok.

Cheers Luke! No not getting one, just like the looks a lot and very interested to see if they've finally turned out a decent product that should be successful. Maybe the four four could replace my wife A1 in a few years. Not sure just yet.

I drove out of the storm area literally 10 minutes before it hit as I just decided to call it a day early for some reason (y)

I think I'd only take the 2 door because the most appealing part about the car is the ultra compact size. The quality doesn't really compete with the A1 at all. It's also a shame the headlights are those budget reflector things... Even the old Smart had projector style lenses, I thought this one would get LED.

I've never seen a storm that crazy in Brisbane, it would have been interesting if it hit during the G20 as Obama was talking about extreme weather conditions :-D

Smart ForTwo by Brabus returns in a revealing set of spy shots
By Adrian Padeanu

To be revealed in April

The Brabus-prepared Smart ForTwo has been caught on camera once again while testing ahead of next year's launch.

Today we found out the Smart ForTwo tweaked by Brabus will be unveiled in April next year and now we take a better look at the city which is bound to get a more aggressive body. Aside from the camouflaged front and rear spoiler lips, the higher-powered ForTwo will also boast a dual exhaust arrangement, darker headlights, slightly updated front grille and beefier alloy wheels.

It will also ride lower than the regular model thanks to a stiffer suspension and is bound to pack a three-cylinder 0.9-liter turbocharged gasoline engine upgraded to approximately 120 HP (88 kW), up by 30 HP (22 kW) compared to the stock ForTwo.

The same treatment will be applied on the more practical ForFour while the unreleased ForTwo Cabrio (due in April) will also likely receive the attention of Brabus.

2015 Smart Fortwo Tested: Good Things Come in Small Packages

Smart, the youngest car brand in Europe, has launched not one but two cars at the same time. There's the new Forfour, which we've already tested, and its smaller brother, the 2015 Fortwo.

Now, while this is the first time Smart has built a 5-door car with the engine at the back, the new Fortwo has a lot to live up to. Since 1998, over one and a half million units of this body little car have been built and sold through two different generations. For the 2015 model, the same overall formula has been used, but with more attention to quality and driving dynamics.

We've tested the new Fortwo. Here's what you need to know!

The platform is shared with the Renault Twingo, but you won't find many visible similarities. The design is refreshing and very attractive, though you will have to pay a little extra to individualize the car.

Smart has been… smart and resisted the urge to increase the size of the car. It is, however, wider in order to give extra stability in the corners and elbowroom for the passengers. The suspension is on the firm side of firm, which can be a problem if the roads are bad where you live. But the Fortwo fights by with a really small turning circle and good visibility, making this an excellent car for parking in tight spots.

Inside, the cabin shows a big improvement in terms of perceived build quality and ergonomics. You sit high up and are offered excellent front visibility, though headroom can be a problem for taller people. A large steering wheel and a slider for the air conditioning system make the cabin feel a little bit less crowded than some other city cars we've driven. Another issue we had with the car was that the doors are too long to open in tight spaces and the seatbelts are located too far back for us to reach.

The infotainment system floats lover the dash, which is covered in a mesh fabric. But the biggest improvement of all over the previous generation right below that. Smart have ditched the semi-automatic gearbox altogether. You can either have a normal 5-speed manual or, starting in early 2015, a 6-speed twin-clutch auto.

All the engines are three-cylinder petrol ones and to find out which you should buy, make sure to read our full 2015 Smart Fortwo Review.

Smart ForTwo Cabrio makes spy photo debut
Launching in 2016
The Smart ForTwo Cabrio has been spied for the first time ahead of this year's expect reveal as a 2016MY.

Spotted inside the development center in Stuttgart, the open-top ForTwo is just one of the many derivatives planned for the overhauled Smart lineup which will also include a similar version of the ForFour but that one will have a Fiat 500C-like retractable roof. The ForTwo Cabrio will continue with a electrically folding canvas top and manually removable side bars.

As you would imagine, the engine lineup will be sourced from its fixed roof sibling so there will be a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated motor with 71 HP (52 kW) and 91 Nm (67 lb-ft) of torque along with a beefier 0.9-liter turbo rated at 90 HP (66 kW) and 135 Nm (99 lb-ft). The regular ForTwo is also getting a Brabus version believed to come with the same turbo motor but uprated to around 120 HP (88 kW).

Other Smart models in the pipeline include a ForTwo EV and possibly a stretched ForFour set to be commercialized with the ForMore moniker. There are also talks about a tiny crossover but nothing is official at this point.

The Smart ForTwo Cabrio will likely be unveiled in the second half of 2015 and will go on sale as a 2016 model year.

Smart ForTwo customized by Carlsson for Geneva Motor Show
No power upgrades
German tuner Carlsson has released an aftermarket package for the latest Smart ForTwo.

It's their first take on the third-gen ForTwo which has gained a variety of cosmetic tweaks starting on the outside where there are custom front & rear spoilers along with a restyled rear apron with cutouts to make room for the quad pipes part of Carlsson’s newly developed sports exhaust system. The ForTwo has ditched the stock wheels to make room for the tuner’s 17-inch DS alloys with polished spokes while the lowering springs have brought the city car closer to the road by a few millimeters.

Stepping inside the cabin, the Smart ForTwo has received an aluminum pedal set, leather & Alcantara steering wheel, two-tone leather upholstery, custom floor mats and other minor bits and pieces to spice up an already funky cabin.

There aren’t any changes in the engine department so you will have to wait until the Brabus versionwill be out likely later this year with an upgraded 0.9 TCe three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine developing somewhere in the region of 120 HP (88 kW), up by 30 HP (22 kW) compared to the series version.

Carlsson will bring their modified Smart ForTwo to next week's Geneva Motor Show.
