Phantom [Official] Rolls-Royce Phantom (VIII)

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.

Source ? I have always read the Phantom VII was a custom platform (unlike the ghost who is based on the 7er) and i have read the same about the phantom VIII
Im pretty sure i read that it is all-new all-alluminum platform. And the old Phantom was definitely not on e65 platform lol

Mechanically,The Phantom VII is developped on the basis of E65 7er,the Phantom VIII is based on G10 7er but without carbon core.

With regards the Phantom VII, this is a misleading over simplification. Drivetrain componentry aside (I'm sure no-ones denying it's BMW powered), the VII used the the same design of self-levelling air sprung rear axle carrier from the E65, and some similar suspension pieces. Different front axle and suspension, front end frame and crash structure, front and rear bulkheads, side frames, floor, boot and tail structure... the only thing they'd have shared in the metal would have been the location of the rear assembly mounting points and the axle carrier bolted to it.

Also can one get a different wood veneer instead of the piano black laquer? I know you can get wood veneers in the Gallery section, but I was wondering about the panel areas around the HVAC and audio controls.

Wood or marble or anything you want. You should really play with the configurator a bit, it's really cool to see the very basics of what's possible. They don't have actual marble in the configurator btw ;)

We don't tolerate and accept blatant lies on germancarforum.com. Be careful, you are marked.

With all due respect, the Ghost and co share the same platform as the 7er, not the Phantom VIII (of course, as @Matski already mentioned, the drivetrain is BMW based)

Some Trivia. The Ghost uses the modified platform also intended for the production BMW CS.

Anyone in the know when the production & deliveries are expected to commence respectively?

The hood shut line of the new VIII is left of the chrome line, and the small pic is the shut line of the old Phantom VII.

Like they say, a picture says more than a thousand words.
And the way the grille is integrated into the design and not simply a bolt on is very modern as well. Makes the VII look really old suddenly, also from the outside.

I'll miss the Phantom VII's hidden seat controls even though the mechanism is straight from the E65 7 series.

See one of the tricks that the British cars use and have mastered is the seat height. Look at the front seats in the Phantom. They look like thrones. It's a stunning visual in the Rolls vs a mere S-Class or BMW 7-Series.

Fun fact: there's nearly 20 years between the development of the Phantom VII and the market launch of the Phantom VIII

I loved those controls back then, and still do when going on those very rare sunny afternoon trips with my '03 745i. Not very practical, but kinda cool and very unique.

So this is the only car with HUD and retractable screen @Busty? Costs obviously didn't matter when designing the dash...
