It's the new Audi gearbox, the R-Tronic.

Two transmissions are available: a manual 6-speed gearbox or optionally the Audi R tronic sequential-shift gearbox. Here, too, the influence of the motorsport world is clearly evident, with a joystick gear-shift on the centre console and, most especially, the paddles mounted on the steering wheel, which are a long-established ergonomic feature in motorsport. The best illustration of this is once again the Le Mans winning Audi R8, which also enables the driver to change gear on the steering wheel.

Sounds like nothing more than a modified version of Tiptronic, which is somewhat disapointing.

Word is that it's based off of Lamborghini's "E - Gear".

^wich i understand isnt so gr8..
but who cares..cause i would go with MT for this car

I don't do stick, auto for me. Perhaps they've modified to work more efficently than E gear.

Yeah, I think so too. You feel like "driving" more with MT. At least I do. That's why I love the RS4 so much. In RS6, you just floored it, and "waited for the car to do it's work".

haha i think he just said he could, artist.

LMAO im stupid..im sorry deutsch.. i didnt understand you right.. i need to sleep:D

Manual is great for driving solo or just with a few buddies...but with my family on board it's definitely the auto that is best. I've driven both my ex-M3 and my current Acura TSX on long trips so I know the benefit of both...but honestly for personal use I prefer the Manual, even in traffic I prefer manual over Automatic because the Automatic puts me to sleep in traffic but with a manual I have to stay awake.

As I mentioned in the other r8 thread I'm not digging the car. It feels like audi has tried too much. The car just feel over designed. Is there someone else here who has the same opinion?

Wow, this does look great.

I must admit though, I did think for a long time, up till this car was released in fact, that this would look like absolute crap. I hated the look of the R8 Le Mans Concept, citing it as 'un-Audi' and 'messy' and the spy pics did nothing to sway my views on the car.

However, upon looking at these official pictures, I have to say that I'm a converted fan. It looks awesome. While it does still deviate on the traditional Audi 'look', made so famous by cars such as the A8, A6 and the Nuvolari Concept, with their clinical, bold lines and simple, but striking looks, when looking at the shapes of the car, all Audi DNA in the R8 is still there. You can see the sharp lines along the sides of the car and great attention to detail in the rear and the front. I don't know what's so different about the concept and the production version, but it all seems to 'come together' quite brilliantly, making for an aggressive, low sportscar, without straying off the Audi DNA with it's clean, sleek lines. Well done Audi. Top job.

The specifications sound alright as well. Sure, it might not sound as good as a twin-turbo V10 as featured in the Le Mans Concept, but it's a more than adequate engine when you begin to accept the fact that this car isn't a supercar, rather a sportscar to combat the 911 and V8 Vantage. Sounds like an exciting drive, although specs seem to suggest, it's merely a Gallardo-lite.

However, I don't like the fact that it has an Audi-fied version of Lamborghini's E-Gear. I would've much preferred it have a DSG gearbox, to inject more of the Audi personality, instead of affirming my opinion of it being a Gallardo-lite.

Otherwise, great car Audi, can't wait for the reviews to roll in.

Funny to think that this design has been around for 3 yrs now, and still looks fresh (to me at least).

The only way I would chose a R8 iis if I was forced to choose between it and the M6.

Second that ^
Now that i think about it..
I would take all other cars in this class over it..
like the Gallardo,F430 or 997

Can someone please explain to me why in some pics the roof above greenhouse is lifted - making rear end of a car looking like being glued to the rest of the car????

Does the roof lift and create a spoiler at higher sppeds - for better aerodynamics, or what?
