According to Car And Driver, Audi will offer a diesel version of its sports car R8 starting 2009.
Audi is currently offering three diesel engines: onse is the 4.2 TDI V-8 used in the Q7. It has an output of 326 hp and a peak torque of 561 lbs-ft. Then there is the 3.0 TDI V6 with an output of 233 hp and a peak torque of 369 lbs-ft. The most powerful one is the 5.9 TDI V-12 influenced by the R10 raced car. It has a maximum power of 493 hp and a peak torque of 738 lbs-ft.
The question is which one will be used for the R8. The most powerful one, the V12, is far too heavy for a sports application such as the R8, not to mention with that kind of power Audi may be overstepping its bounds with subsidiary Lamborghini. On the other hand the 3.0 TDI V6 offers to less power for a sports car. So, the only choice is the same 4.2 TDI V-8 used in the Q7.

If they used that V8 TDI, I rather they not put it in the car at all.
