R8 Official R8 Thread

The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG in 2006. Production ended in the first quarter of 2024. Production: June 2006 – March 2024 (45,949 Units), Model years: 2007–2024
I saw the R8 at the Sydney Motor Show and i also went inside it.

From the exterior, it's simply stunning! the guy at the stand turned on the headlights and the LEDs look so impressive as they border the shape of the headlights.

Inside was just as brilliant. The quality of the materials, the heptics of the buttons was absolutely first rate. It really felt like a racing car cos the cockpit really does feel it's wrapping around you.

Fantastic car!

5 r8's have been sold in the first 2 days of istanbul autoshow with a price tag of 220k euro. not bad.

Audi Norway say they think there will be sold 15-20 car's in Norway pr. year.

Soon my motorjournalist friend will have the car.. :eusa_pray :D Can't wait!

ordered mine yesterday... prob wont make the allocation- dealer is only getting around 12 r8s and i am #15- but he said its impossible to tell whether some folks will drop out or not.
besides, i really want the convertible- so #15 is perfect... i should be first in line for that car!!

Wow, impressive, going to want to see pictures of that when you get, but if you're waiting for the convertable, you may be in for a much longer wait than expected.

finally saw the car today... forget the convertible!!
besides, i could not figure out how they could really make this car into a convertible with the mid-engine. maybe a t-top ?
so, now am just hoping my number comes up!!

I really hope Audi uses the R8 as the blueprint for all future Audi's from here on out, though I'M sure more attention was given to the R8's design to sell the car and the brand.

I would like to know if R8 has quattro with torsen diff or electro-hydraulic clutch (like known in A3) - viscous coupling center diff?

According to Car And Driver, Audi will offer a diesel version of its sports car R8 starting 2009.

Audi is currently offering three diesel engines: onse is the 4.2 TDI V-8 used in the Q7. It has an output of 326 hp and a peak torque of 561 lbs-ft. Then there is the 3.0 TDI V6 with an output of 233 hp and a peak torque of 369 lbs-ft. The most powerful one is the 5.9 TDI V-12 influenced by the R10 raced car. It has a maximum power of 493 hp and a peak torque of 738 lbs-ft.

The question is which one will be used for the R8. The most powerful one, the V12, is far too heavy for a sports application such as the R8, not to mention with that kind of power Audi may be overstepping its bounds with subsidiary Lamborghini. On the other hand the 3.0 TDI V6 offers to less power for a sports car. So, the only choice is the same 4.2 TDI V-8 used in the Q7.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
