Boxster/Cayman (981) [Official] Porsche Cayman (981)

The Porsche 981 is the internal designation given to the third-generation Boxster/Cayman (second generation Cayman) models built by Porsche. Production: 2012–2016. It was succeeded by the Porsche 982.
From a personal perspective I reckon this Cayman is not only better looking than the 911 but is Porsche's best looking car to date.

That is killing me to say. the Cayman would benefit greatly from more grunt although the current 3.4 is plenty fast in Boxster. I just need 997S performance with 0-200 in 14-15 sec.

I agree more performance would be very welcome but I see why Porsche resist doing it because it would kind of make the 911 redundant. The thing I've always praised the Boxster/Cayman for was their easy on the limit behaviour compared to the 911, any muppet given a hour behind the wheel on a track could achieve reasonably decent lap times but the 911 always took a lot lot longer to understand and even when you think you've mastered it it bits you on the arse just to let you know who's boss.

So they gonna test it against the FL R8 V8? Cool! Interesting if the V8 still handles better then the V10.

Incredibly close and interesting to hear how each differed over the course of the lap. I'm sure weight is the biggest penalty the R8 has but there's no denying the 911 is an epic car.

If I'm right 2014 should be an interesting year with details of the R8 replacement.

^ Chirs Harris is killing me on this. Specially that everyone insist that this is better than 991 (bar the straightline performance of course)

^Autocar have just pitted it against the Lotus and M3 and to use their words "the most complete sports car ever made" so yeah the Cayman is pretty remarkable unless outright acceleration is your thing but even then it isn't exactly what you'd call slow.

Great review. The only question jogging my mind throughout was, where is your rival, Mercedes? and especially BMW?

The Cayman is just too good, it won't be an easy task for other manufactures to beat it. Well, there'll be the M2, possibly the new Supra, the 4C but it will sacrifice the comfort, then I can only think of the baby McLaren, but that one will surely cost alot more. If the the best that could ever happen would be a "Cayman GT3".

Any one know what the differences between Cayman 3.4 and carrera 3.4 engine ?

Yes I would like to know that too. I am not buying the Cyaman (yet?) but I would wish to to get the 350 PS in the Cayman. The engines are really the same, other that the Cayman's engine is detuned. But I would like to know what hadrware doesn't allow it to have the "full" power. If not, fitting the 400 PS 3.8l must be another very easy thing to do.

To answer the question:

- "Has Porsche topped itself?"
- "No, not yet."

Porsche has to make a "Cayman GT3".

I checked the Cayman out today. It's awesome.
My phone was dead, didn't get any pics :-/
