Huayra [Official] Pagani Huayra

The Pagani Huayra, named after the Quechua god of wind, Huayra-tata, is the successor to the Pagani Zonda.

Amazing stuff! She looks drop-dead-gorgeous in that color! Not to forget, excellent job behind the camera!

It's over the top for a reason. I mean c'mon, the car itself is over the top...the interior shouldn't lag behind. And that ricy comment...pure blasphemy Klier, that deserves a bitch slap. LOL

As for the engine...As Artist pointed out, that is what Horacio wanted, so no arguments there. But I don't think it sounds bad...I little CCX-ish with the grumbles, but thats about my only issue with it.

I agree with the first part, and disagree with the second part....have you seen (or rather heard) videos from inside the cockpit while driving the Huayra? That is just...hmmm....

If you're saying that it doesn't sound as good as the Zonda. I agree with you. But to say that it sounds horrible isn't right either though.

The car is driven by Horacio himself, the passenger Evo editor Harry Metcalfe. Listen from around 3:30 min on and tell me that's a nice sound with a straight face ;/

Sound like an old Subaru Impreza (not that there's anything wrong with that car, but then again it costs around $995,000 less ;) )

Huayra from 9 mins fwd

^ I think its pretty clear that you do not like the sound.
Still does not change the fact that the man wanted it to sound like that, if he didnt it wouldnt.. just listen to the zonda..
Now it might not be to many peoples taste..
But thats more or less irrelevant at one point, cause tastes differ extremely..

Pfff, what are you saying now? I shouldn't talk about the sound anymore?

Also, he wanting it to sound it like that because the Zonda sounds different is the lamest thing I have heard yet in 2012. This is another car, with another engine. Don't start comparing it to the Zonda.

^Ok so he is lying then? when he says he wants to achive the sound and senation of a jet taking of?
Cause Klier knows better than Horacio Pagani ..what Horacio Pagani wants?

When he started this project, if he wanted it to scream like an eagle..he would have gotten an engine to do so ..dont you think?

PS
you can talk about the sound as much as you want, but you cant say much about it other than: Me Klier thinks that it sounds like shit..
I just wanted to tell you that we have fully understood your opinion, now if you want to keep on repeating it.. then sure go ahead..but its more or less pointless do you not think?

I wouldn't say that he's lying Artist, but I do believe that all his talk about him "wanting" the Huayra to sound like a jet is a publicity tactic to deflect criticism of the sound that Pagani had to inevitably deal with, without any options, as a result of being forced to use the old tech Merc TT V12 together with the very unrefined (from the video evidence thus far) X-trac sequential transmission.

Pagani is a miracle worker with carbon fibre bodywork but he has little to no real engine development and tuning experience - hence the partnership with AMG - and thus he has to publicize his car in a way that is aligned with what it is in certain aspects (engine sound, rev range, transmission) over which he is afforded much less control over the outcome.

Him wanting this old-school twin turbo V12 to sound like a jet plane? I don't buy that convenient rhetoric for one minute. The Huarya is what it is and Pagani needs to promote it as such. But, there's no denying that whereas the 7.3 litre AMG - if not one of the best engines of its era, then surely one of the greatest sounding - was the centrepiece to the Zonda's magnificence, the new-old V12 is thus far shaping up to be its biggest disappointment in my opinion.

Frankly, as far as I'm concerned the engine is a very Veyron-esque approach in a very un-Veyron-like car. But let's wait for the definitive reviews of this exquisitely crafted hypercar in April.

So the engine was forced on him by AMG?
Is there a contract written between MB and pagani ?
The x trac transmission was commissioned by HP and it cost him an arm and a leg, it's no crap of the shelf.
The zonda was developed without AmG help, other than the engine.. It would be fair to say it did pretty well.
This car has had the benefit of R&D with AmG and should be better of even more so than the zonda.

It surprises me that people here really believe that they were forced.. Or that they are deaf
I think the pagani team realized a couple of years before you and me how this car sounds.
But still they stuck with it.
I decide to believe that it was by choice not FORCE from Mercedes that me knowingly does not own a cent of pagani nor has a contract to be the sole engine supplier for decades to come.

But hey we all believe what we want to believe ;)

Based on that EVO video it sounds like I'm in the dentist's chair getting a sealant put in with a drill and an aspirator. The turbo whoosh is pretty dominant and it's hard to hear the little nuanced notes of the engine.

Now, based on what I read and what I remember, Sr. Pagani is a wizard when it comes to chassis design and aerodynamics that he has honed since his days in Lambo. The great Juan Manuel Fangio advised Pagani to broach M-B for the engine. So yes, he did choose M-B AMG as well as all the other components. But since he's in such a "committed" partnership with M-B it wouldn't have been wise for Pagani to go elsewhere. If I were to assume correctly, that this is one of the earliest Huayra, so the noise-tuning may still be working out. There was that video that Artist posted a few weeks ago of the Pagani test driver driving about....i don't remember the noise to well, but the turbo was not nearly as vocal.

Regarding, Pagani saying that the intent was to model it after a jet, that could be true. But I'd venture a guess that many high-end sports car builders, especially high-end Italian sports car builders, would want a more varied high-rev noise that's been established by the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. I think the jet talk is trying to justify the turbo whoosh. I understand what Pagani wanted to build was something that was uncompromising, and he pretty much did, but he is still a boutique right now thus a but limited to what he can achieve. That's not to say he and team aren't talented though....when you see that reverse camera shot of the car accelerating, I'd imagine that's what the rear-camera of Millenium Falcon would look like in hyperdrive.

There is alot to an engine besides sound, do not forget that. the whole car is set up and built around the fact that the engine is turbo. And he knows as well as anyone that turbo cars will never sound as good as NA.
Which then further proves my point of the vision of a jet aircraft. huge torque, suction and effortlessness at non brutal engine speeds.

I guess nobody would refuse the offer :P I think I wouldn't drive the Huayra, rather, I'll put in my living room as a fashinable item. For me is a work of art, before car.

I understad your feelings about the noise, but it's strange.. in some videos you only hear the turbo whispers and in others it roars more. May be like you say, they're fine tuning the car, still.

Regards and have a nice weekend

I said the same thing earlier, I'd be so hesitant to drive it at all because if I got the tiniest of scratch on there, I'd be so pi**ed. The car's detailing is absolutely peerless.
