I only read M7, the old (new) optical trick, it was served and I ate it

I think the G70 is the best 7er since the E65 giving it a tribute in so many ways.
It’s all about statement.

Many will argue, but the E65 was the best that happened to BMW, it began their golden era in car design until beginning of 2010’s. After 20 years it’s still striking even you hate it or love it.

It was all about impact, the G70 follows that rule.

The only impact E65 made on me, back then, now and in between, was thinking ‘what an ugly car’.

Not unsimilar to the M-B EQS and EQE sedans, the BMW E65 7er was, for me, a "grower". When it was presented, I spontaneously associated it with..."Panzer". An ungainly monster of a car. Slowly but surely, however, I began to "understand" its' design-and appreciate it as well. The LCI really won me over. Nowadays, I consider it to be one of the epic BMWs.

As for the G70/71, it is gradually becoming "neither here nor there" for me-leaving me relatively indifferent (save its' unbecoming, gargantuan size). At best, it's a conventionally proportioned überlarge sedan with some elegant surface sculpturing, an "okay" rear, a patently overly theatrical face and what appears to be a very nice interior.

I understand your point. But the E65 was created with a vision, a clear design language that was followed for about a decade. The EQS is a creation of a blind ego of Wagener, but it’s uninspiring and plain, what’s the opposite of the E65. The S-Class on the other hand is too correct and plain in some way too.

I’m not defending BMW’s design, the opposite, I even think that van Hooydonk should have leave already years ago. It’s a man who has skills but no vision. He’s work consist of improvising.

I still think, they took a huge risk with the G70, on purpose. It might be an exception, seeing the X1 which is once again a mix of every other design we already see on the road. Probably other creations will be same correct, but completely uninspiring. Yet for the upper premium segment they took some 25% of the risk from E65 to make it different and that pays out.

How can you not like it ?

It may actually be the more inconspicuous appearance of the EQS, its' many elements of familiarity (save the One Bow architecture which is something new for M-B) that are slowly but surely winning me over. Granted, the E65 was such a stark departure from what we were accustomed to from BMW that it was inevitable that it would polarize. As such, it was a genuinely daring, "ballsy" design exercise by BMW. Something that I don't really perceive the G70/71 to be. To me, it's an oversized IKEA Wandschrank of a car with some hastily applied facial make-up.

How can you not like it ?
It certainly looks the business. It has presence and makes you take note of it wether you find it appealing or not.

My god, it looks fabulous ?

Well, AVH is literally the designer of the E65, he drew it and signed it, I don't think he is where he is for more than 20 years if he didn't have vision, under his command there were three or four of the best designers in the world, who were later hired by the chinese, infinity and huyndai/kia, that is having vision and leadership
Something that I don't really perceive the G70/71 to be.
My opinion on this is that E65 was something from scratch with no history in the brand, the g70, is where you look at, a modern BMW based entirely on past models to the point of being a retrofuture car with all the letters, with specific details that break tradition, such as the front and the interior

What I’ve noticed lately is, how many cars are equiped with split headlights nowadays. Not only Citroën Cactus, but also Jeep Cherokee, Genesis and some other Korean, which names I don’t know.
