BMW seem to be confused with the overall design of this car and it is sought of a reminder of when Mercedes launched the round eyed W210 in 1995, there is a miss match between the front (good) and rear (bad). The new twin light front design headon looks actually quite good and also front 3/4 it has a lot of eye catching lines and styling details that are revolutionary for BMW.

But then as you move from the A-pillar to the rear of the car it becomes really featureless and too conventional. The flanks and door panels are flat without any lines or even shapes. BMW seem to be trying to emulate Mercedes with less lines for purer shape, but this ain't like the Sensual Purity of the S-class, which at least has some bulges on the wheel arches and shaping on the rear haunches.

The tail looks too upright and the rear lights look way too conventional, they seem to look like a Hyundai Sonata previous gen or early 2000's Toyota Camry and are not forward looking like the front of the car.

The interior doesn't look special enough, it appears too spartan with boring grey and light tan colours. The rear seat area has some cost cutting evident with the door panels as they don't have any trim, this is only reserved for the front doors and dash with the cheesy looking backlit crystal strips and the vents at the rear are all plastic. Front has no wood trim, only the backlit LED crystal strip and some black shiny piano plastic used for the center console. I think the new LCI X7 looks much nicer inside than the i7/7er.

I don't know but this cabin doesn't seem like that forward looking as that of the iX or even the X7.

There is a rather big slab of wood on the dashboard. Of course, it may not be visible right now (as the wood choice is rather grey-ish and open-pored), but you will see it in the press photos.

I remember in 2001 after the first pictures of the E65/E66 the phones were ringing regarding the controversy. This time it will be on Social media.
The difference was, that even very controversial it was a damn good design, like their whole design language. People might hate Bangle, but it was visionary and conceptual for each of their designs, years ahead of their competitors, marked car design where we are today.

You can’t compare that thing to the E65 which has no vision behind it at all.

Despite all that except for some tastless details I still like it for what it is. Bold with reduced interior, that was really needed. I’m waiting for more pics to contemplate it. But it turned out better as I thought it will.

Not what you typed. Never the less.

There are much better ways to get your point across, like just keeping it simple.

Nope. Its exactly what i typed.
“the color for this car will be black”
I didnt type “the owners will order it in black”
And “the color for this car will be black” is a statement that cant be more simple.

sorry bmw

I have to agree with you here. Despite the fact that mercedes has a rather classic boring design, it looks much better than the i7. Sill beast looking in the class. Only thing i really like about the i7 is the interior. I have a feeling that the car design from the i7 will get old very quickly.
Is that included in the part that's miles ahead? If so, your degree of fanboyism is immeasurable.

Don't forget who "copied" the mercedes.

The bmw i3 also had two PDAs layout before Mercedes.

Now explain to me who is copying whom??

It's easy to bash on ugly fronts with BMWs these days so I'll jump straight to the real problem here (for me).
BMW sedans these days are a huge departure from the sleek looking sedans of the 90s and early 00s.
These cars were low, wide and looked like they were hugging the road which added immensely to the "sports sedan" look BMW used to be known for.
Starting with the latest 3er and now this 7er they are going for the narrow and high look ala 70s BMW sedans and while it looked great back then I don't think it works here... at all. It has to be down to details.
I'm talking about perceived looks here and am not comparing actual dimensions.
This new 7er is trying to look both like a BMW and a Rolls Royce at the same time but doesn't succeed in neither if you ask me.

PS: One last thing to add:

Although I have a soft spot for the E65 I can wholeheartedly agree with people saying it was ugly but I have to give it to BMW since they fixed a lot of its design flaws come LCI time. I'm not expecting the same "turnaround" with this new one unfortunately + it's been close to a decade now since I gave up on waiting for facelifts to fix flawed designs.

I think the interior of the new 7 series looks superb! I'm a huge fan of my teslas interior, the only downside is build and material quality. The 7 series has the same minimalism to it but much more refined. Only thing I'm not a fan yet, is that glas-thingy around the car.

Also, i'm pretty sure that the car will be liked and loved even by many of the people, who are bashing it right now. ;)

And thank fuk for that. Sensual purity is MB Marketing bull shit to try and and sell a design concept that has regressed instead of progressed.
