The car is not that big. The car is extremely poorly designed.
The Maybach 57 is a much bigger car. And it has 19 wheels.

Don't be that guy, the rear wheels of that Maybach look 13".
But the Maybach is definitely less bulbous, so that helps.

The reason those wheels look small is because the 7er is a taller car. When you add visual mass wheels start to look smaller, and that’s called proportions lol.
Just think about the RR Phantom. It’s almost as tall as an SUV and even though it has 22” wheels they look small compared to the body. The one downfall of that type of design is probably they don’t appear as athletic as the S Class or the other rivals that has lower height.

Some would say that's exactly what constitutes poor design.

The idea of incorporating a battery pack, and motor combo in an ICE platform does have its drawbacks. Vertical bulk or mass is one of them.
The Rolls Royce Phantom I read was designed with battery/ motor pack as well but that car can mask vertical bulk far better because it is huge to begin with. One could hardly ever call the Rolls Phantom a poor design.

And how the battery under the seats affects the height of the engine?)

It does not. The 7er would look strange if the hood line were lower than the boot, so the designers thought to raise it a bit to match the boot.

I guess this issue will go away in time as battery packs get smaller?

To put it in a perspective
They both have 19” wheels on. The S Class is of course has a sleeker design and it’s also lower so the wheels look big enough and looks proportionate, whereas with the 7 Series because of all the mass and height the wheels look extremely small.

They all have 21’s. It’s crazy how the proportions work. The RR looks like it has 18” wheels on whereas the Merc looks like it has a much bigger wheel than it should, because of the super slim tire wall.
Rolls Royce has a height of 165 cm (literally as tall as a crossover/SUV)
BMW is 154 cm
Mercedes is the lowest with 149 cm

Are you trying to prove my point? lol

We agree, the typical Rolls-Royce brand attributes made incorporating a flexible platform very easy without the risk of sullying its looks. A good design makes compromises as invisible to the eye as possible. The 7-series doesn't enjoy the same circumstances. I'm a bit more forgiving in that regard and won't call the 7-series a bad design.
