A4/S4/RS4 [Official] New Audi A4 Official Thread

The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced by Audi. Production: 1994-2025. Predecessor: Audi 80. Successor: Audi A5 (B10).
Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

u cant just compare the front to the front offcourse they will look the same , they both are audi's, u have to compare the whole car to know the differance, but speaking of the interior, im gonna have to admit that the A4 has the same exact interior like the A5, not a bad thing , but it would be so much better if they gave us something new .

Tycoon, I’m Albanian so I’ll try to translate what Richboy was saying.....

He was simply stating that car enthusiasts like all of us here at GCF are likely pleased with Audi’s new feature on the A4 called “Drive Select” whereas ordinary(non-car enthusiasts) buyers probably wouldn’t care whether it was there or not. I got ya Tyc. Next time you need Albanian translated just holla. ;)

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

Eni, yes it is, the same pic surprised me when I saw it this morning. This must surely mean that the FWD B8s have engines mounted transversly A3-style and the AWD B8s have the engines mounted longitudinally but with the new asymmetrical quattro drivetrain layout. The press blurb that Bartek posted earlier on in this thread appears to confirm this.

What's nice about the flexibility in the engine orientation is that now, S-Tronic (DSG) can be offered on the FWD A4's for the first time. I'm curious to see when and how DSG (I hate using the term S-Tronic) gets implemented in quattro driven models. I have a distinct impression that Audi have engineered the new asymmetrical quattro drivetrain not only to facilitate the rearward location of the engine but also to accomodate DSG mechanicals in the gearbox. Interesting times...

That's great news indeed. One thing most of us forget is that this car will drive very, very differently from the B7, despite the talk about how this just looks like a facelift. It will be an entirely different car on the road.

I'm just excited now to see whether DSG can be implemented more liberally than before. It's such a pity Audi stuck multitronic on its sweet models like the B7 2.0TFSI and A6 C6 2.0TFSI (FWD). Those sorely deserve a DSG gearbox.

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

I highly doubt that you'll see a B8 1.8T Quattro w/ Haldex, even though it's a transversal configuration.

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

I know this might sound crazy, but I think Audi but the LED's in for how it makes the car look when off!
It looks 100x better when there not on if you ask me..:eusa_thin

Well, they sure do look better on the A5/S5. They feel more sober.

The LEDs on the new A4 look a little like it was a LED strap bought from IKEA...

Then imagine what they could do with the already good looking B8...

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

I'm still not digging it.

:t-hands:

Superb craftsmanship, but that doesn't inspire me.

I doubt IRL sighting will change anything. I didn't in A5 case, and it probably won't in A4 either.

Am I blind? Or do I really have so much different taste preferences - finding Audi cars bland. Yes, they are handsome but bland (incl TT & A5).

I really do not understand.

Whatever.

Just my 2 cents.

:t-cheers:

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

I have not been around for a while so this is a nice surprise.

I like this new A4. It has some really beautifully resolved details. It is not at all dramatic or revolutionary, but it is pure Audi in every way.

The way the panels and sections all join up is exemplary; as is typical with Audi, much thought has gone into keeping the overall effect clean and homogeneous (I wish Mercedes would take some lessons here, the S class is a dogs breakfast in that regard)

Adiós :)

The over exaggerated exterior of the S-Class suits me just fine..:D

I think you took the wrong thing from my comment RICHBOY, I was not referring to the styling, I was talking about the way the body panels and bumpers all join each other. Audi's design philosophy is not just skin deep, the designers pay very careful attention to the way the whole product is put together. The well-resolved configuration of the separate elements (body panels etc.) is expressive of, and integral to, the technical excellence the brand proports to stand for.

Now, if you will excuse me, I will get back to celebrating Diana's death :eusa_doh: :D

Yep, that's the craftsmanship excellence Audi are known for. And that's the point of Audi design - making it perfectly crafted (form follows function), while eg. BMW philosophy concentrates more on playing with styling, shapes, lines (form over function).

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

I really like the LED strip in the new A4. Better than A5, even.

Re: New AUDI A4 (Official pics).

Call me crazy if you like, but overall I think the new A4 looks better than the A5.

The lines on the A4 are better proportioned somehow.

Yeh, same here. It seems alot better proportioned as you said.

I think the new A4 has more clarity and continuity than the A5. It really feels like their most complete effort since the A3 sportback.

I just now wish that they could go back and reskin the A5 in a more distinctive manner.

What's the problem? :t-hands:

See what I circled in red? If this were pressed so tight, it wouldn't open. I have no problems with the S-Class interior at all. It's well constructed and feels and looks like a quality interior. I don't think anyone is going to throw a fit if there's 2 mm gap between some panels...

LOL I don't think he is talking about those panel gaps, Chris. ;)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
