SL-Class [Official] Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series (R232)

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light" in English.

Sigh........................Mercedes. You call this car a SL680, but has a V8 and not the V12 like the S680 has. WTF?

M

Surprisingly tasteful. Save of course the critical Maybach emblem overdose seemingly EVERYWHERE and the overdone pleating acrobatics on the seats. And the two-tone option is very fortunately AN OPTION. Personally, I'd pass on that. But otherwise, very, very nice. Clean and elegant. The brushed silver windshield frame and the multispoke alloys complement the car well.

I suspect that the hyper-affluent in Santa Clara county and Palm Beach will be keen to add this to their collections. Those will probably the absolute key markets.

Right? Isn’t the M GLS680 also a V8?

Also at this point since Maybach is ‘just’ a trim level why not add it to the C and the E class as well?

It’s too “chintzy” for their flagship sports car.
An S coupe or previous S Cabrio would be their first choice but now that ship has sailed.
Those that have money and like to flaunt it will be first in line.

PRECISELY the target demographic. We will be seeing few if any of these in the EU. The same may apply to the U.S. northeast and Canada. Chinese customers do not appear to be attracted by 2 seat droptops in general. That leaves the super affluent, flamboyant California and Florida hotspots and perhaps the UAE. And we may being seeing a couple cruising the streets of posh sections of London, maybe Monaco as well.

A good deal of the cars perceived vulgarity could be diminished with a spec similar to that of the Maybach 6 concept roadster. That color in a monotone scheme, less juxtapositioned interior pleating and maybe interior color options other than bright white. And of course, without those really silly Maybach logos all over the car. A single one on the crest of the grill would suffice.

A Maybach "Mythos" sort of entry could be a very clean, subdued yet very elegant 4 door coupe loosely based on the upcoming AMG.EA 4 door GT. Totally devoid of the tacky shtick.

TACKY AS F*CK!!! When did Mercedes become this tasteless? With all that Maybach logo overload, and that HORRIBLE bonnet with all the logos…Just sad seeing the original Maybach concept evolving into this cheap looking thing. The SL should’ve been offered just as an AMG model.
And also, who is dumb enough to buy this over the Continental or DB12?

I find this model not quite as offending as most of you seem to. Although I am not the typical Maybach clientele, I can see the case for this softer SL.

That white interior, however, makes me nervous if I were the owner. It would not stay white for long, unless one commits to wear linnen clothing forever.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
