S-Class [Official] Mercedes-Maybach Pullman (VV222)

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
The BMW era Phantom isn't really the successor to the Phantons which went before, it was built as a replacement for the Silver Serpah.

OMG, the Silver Seraph! I loved that car as a kid (weird right?), but it went out of production before my dad could buy one (responsibilities, etc.) and already felt content with his X308 XJ. As "outdated" as it was, that's where my love for Rolls-Royce died when it and the Corniche went away. I became strictly a Bentley guy (eventually an Arnage joined us in May 2005) when I saw the Phantom 12 years ago. I respect the Phantom and appreciate an occasional ride in one, but will never love it. Too blocky and gargantuan. I actually prefer the F02-based Ghost and even preferred the Maybach 62. A lot of W222 is owed to the Silver Seraph, as well as modern Bentleys.

Well the Silver Seraph fits more logically as the predecessor of the Ghost (in terms of market segment) ....but I understand why you would say that.

I'd say the Phantom replaced the 2000-2002 Park Ward. Phantom development even paralleled the early refresh of the Silver Seraph in late 1999/MY2000 (December 1999 Phantom concept approval) and the Park Ward introduction at Geneva in March 2000 (Phantom design freeze May 2000). Shockingly enough the Silver Seraph was designed by June 1991 (below), halted by 1992, resuming in March 1994, and being fully final by December 15, 1994. Took 6.5 years till 1998 intro.

Apparently Michael Jackson loved the W126, RR Silver Spur, and Park Ward a great deal, only growing to love the Phantom in his last years. He would've gone for the Maybach Pullman, over the more Teutonic VV221 Pullman Guard.

GT Spirit took a picture of the tires, confirming it's an MB GUARD tire: Michelin 255/720/R490 AC 117H PAX. :)

And the Pullman expert talk with Der Landgraf just concluded. Since the S 600 Pullman is now available without GUARD, in contrast to the predecessor, MB expects one third of the market to be related to states and governments, and two thirds to be private, like for business or rock band leaders.

Also, the three instruments under the roof may be offered in the future for the shorter Maybachs as well.

Looks like it can barely move. They should have given this the S65's version of the 6L V12. That said, bring on the final S-Class variant, the S Cabriolet!!

The car does seem under nourished with only 530hp V12 motor. I also think Mercedes should have gone the extra mile and bring out a mega powerful 700hp version of the V12 for this car.

Well it's only a matter of time before we see the M275 AMG in this.

I know Mercedes have clearly stated there will not be any Maybach/AMG crossover .......but that doesn't mean there won't be "S" versions of the Maybach models which are technically AMG variants.

Bloomberg reports:

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Is Fit for a King—Or Kanye (Video on link)

-1x-1.webp

The car is modeled on the S Class sedan but has a wheelbase that’s a full meter longer, plus a 530 horsepower V12 turbocharged engine and extra-soft suspension and transmission

Mercedes has finally unveiled the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman, a limited-edition limo that will cost $1 million in armored form.

The car, which made its global debut on Tuesday at the Geneva Motor Show, is a new version of the Pullman Mercedes first made in 1963 as a conveyance for high-ranking monarchs and heads of state.

Elvis—a king in his own right—owned one. So did Coco Chanel and Elizabeth Taylor. These days, I’m hoping Kanye and Kim get one. Or maybe George and Amal Clooney, for pulling up to red carpet events such as the Oscars.

The new version is based on the modern S Class sedan, with a wheelbase a full meter longer than that car. It has a 530hp V12 turbocharged engine and specially refined suspension and transmission systems to ensure that any ride in the back of this goes undisturbed by whatever is happening on the outside, whether it’s paparazzi or hand grenades.

Inside, you can make the car whatever you want it to be. (Popular necessities include hand-stitched leather pillows, silver champagne sets, and privacy curtains.) John Lennon installed a special hi-fi sound system in his during the late 1960s. You, on the other hand, could add champagne coolers, a theatre system, a fragrance system, a humidor, and any number of supple leather and exotic wood combinations. The floor mats are thick and plush and the windows cancel out virtually all exterior noise and harmful UV rays. The quilted stitching on the dashboard and center armrest alone is far superior to the interiors of lesser vehicles.

And if you haven’t guessed, the back is big enough for three rows of seats—or a lay-flat lounger. I’d go with the lounger.

I get the feeling Mercedes' interior designers took inspiration from high-end leather products. The interior looks like the inside of a Bottega Veneta handbag.

They really should make the rear passenger seats face the other way (back to the driver). That way you feel like you're leaving the outside world behind (because you're facing backwards), and they can then also provide a full lay-flat bed option by utilizing some trunk space.

:D

I was never a big fan of the Silver Seraph/Arnage while they were in production but looking back now I am slightly nostalgic for those old models.

I liked these:

Wow a T-top Continental I've never seen one of those before, love it. I guess that must have been a special order vehicle?

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
