Hot! BMW AG: What's Next

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
An honorable former member of GCF (I assume that's what the article is referring to), who in his student days posted his rendering ideas here, for example, what he envisioned the X6 should look like long before being hired by BMW and designing the current one himself.

It was very interesting to witness that growth.

BMW Designer Behind the F87 M2 and More, Leaves BMW After 14 Years to Lead GM Advanced Design Studio

One of BMW's most versatile designers — the man behind the F87 M2, the 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW X6, and more — is heading to General Motors' Advanced Design Studio in Pasadena.

There are people you meet in this industry whose fingerprints you can spot on a car before you ever learn their name. Hussein Al Attar is one of those people. After 14 remarkable years with BMW and Designworks, he is leaving to take on the role of Design Director at General Motors’ Advanced Design Studio in Pasadena, California — and while I couldn’t be happier for him, BMW is losing someone extremely talented.

"I’ve been lucky to know Hussein for a long time, in fact, we met on a car forum. So long enough to have watched my one-line introduction evolve from the M2 to the 6 Series GT to, eventually, something far more complicated to summarize."

Ynguldyn's update on the G66 X6 and iX6 model variants:

-G66 X6/iX6 models: 30 xDrive, 40 xDrive, 40d xDrive, M60 xDrive, iX6 50 xDrive, iX6 60 xDrive, iX6 M70 xDrive. So, no hybrids or RWD models.

LOL who the f#ck would want an RWD version? There's never been one, nor for the X5.
Anyways, just EV or full on ICE is the way to go. Perfect.

And to think we had Hussein here as a member long time ago…

He left just before joining BMW, so yeah that long time has been 14 years now.

Auto China 2026: Beijing Premiere for BMW 7 Series Facelift, i7 & i3 Long-Wheel Drive

In less than two weeks, BMW will unveil several world premieres at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. Even more crucial for sales success in China is the debut of the New Class, which will debut in two forms: The BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase (NA6), based on our NA5 platform, will be unveiled, while the BMW i3 Long Wheelbase, based on our NA0 platform, will also celebrate its world premiere. It has already been revealed that the extended iX3 will achieve a range of up to 900 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle – and since the i3 achieves this range even in the more demanding WLTP cycle, the i3 Long Wheelbase could even approach four figures according to CLTC.

Curious to see the i3L.

Love the flame surfacing of the 1st gen Z4, but I'm still partial to the elegant lines of the E89 Z4...

There's a certain exotic look to the E89 with the curvier coke-bottle design I love so much. And the way the rear fender line flows into the taillights, and the front fender line flows into the headlights!

I so rarely see E89s on the road, and I've spent so much time looking at the Z4 GT3 in one form or another, that a standard width convertible actually looks kinda strange to me. Juliane Blasi has certainly been one of my preferred designers within the group in recent years, I thought it was a big shame the look introduced with the Vision Connected Drive never went anywhere.

The Vision Connected Drive was a gorgeous concept. Even the 2018 Z4 concept was gorgeous to me, but the production model made things just a little too rounded and soft, and the wheelbase reduction with the overall length still increasing did not help the proportions.

The flared fenders of the Z4 GT3 are something else.. and even cooler on the Z4 GTE. Definitely my favourite BMW racecar alongside the E92 GT and G81 24H. I still dream of a production E89M with the S65 V8 and flared fenders.

I believe the E89 was the first and only BMW designed by women for both the interior and exterior. Wonderful car, but yeah, a little weird and anorexic when you're used to looking at the GT3 version LOL

I have the same with the 1er M coupe. So used to looking at that fat little thing that seeing a normal 1er coupe is a bit weird..
