GLS (X167) [Official] Mercedes-Maybach GLS (X167)

The Mercedes-Benz X167 is the third generation GLS range of full-size luxury crossover SUV. Production: June 2019- Model years: 2020-

The 2 tone silver and white porcelain looks quit nice and combined with those gorgeous and massive 23 inch rims makes it a really imposing and majestic looking LUV (Luxury Utility Vehicle). GLS600 has huge outputs, 410kw and 730nm is nothing to be embarrassed about.

I have warmed up to the outside, its nice but the interior is simply not special enough and really does not stand apart that much from a normal GLS 580 IMO.

in germany the car is since a few days orderable and in the...
The exterior colours and especially interior colours choice is very disappointing and limited. Considering this is supposed to be a high end vehicle for the wealthy there should be a much bigger selection of different leathers/alcantara or trims to reflect its exclusivity compared to a standard GLS. At the moment only 3 interior colour choices of Nappa leather crystal white / silver gray pearl or Mahogany brown nappa leather / macchiato beige or Black Nappa. Also Mercedes a little cheeky to charge extra money for heat seating for all seats for a 165KEuro car!!! The 2 tone paint work is a massive 20KEuros and the crystal white nappa leather is a huge 14500Euros!!!! The individual comfort chairs are 4500Euros.

This a my spec I like for a cool 195K Euros! Briiliant blue metallic with 23inch Mayback Multi Spoke wheels and Crystal White nappa interior with designo wood linden light lines glossy brown

That thing about limited customization is why Maybach will always play second fiddle to Rolls and Bentley. It's one of the main reasons actually. There should be far more choices in wood, leather colors and trim materials if you're not going to actually change the design of the interior compared to a regular GLS. This and no V12 will see limited sales for this thing.

I think the major reason for the limited choice is cos its build from US plant, not Sindelfingen plant like Maybach S-Class. I second @Merc1 on that opinion, not only Rolls & Bentley, even less choice than Range Rover SV Autobiography. Mercedes ‘must’ bring in more bespoking for Maybach

The minimalistic base spec, without options, lists for about 156k. :)

Black exterior paint, standard wheels.

The standard black Nappa leather and open pore anthracite wood elements.

The standard rear bench may be more practical than two excecutive recliners for some.

The Maybach Manufaktur in Sindelfingen may cooperate with the plant in Tuscaloosa on interiors.

If you're manufacturing a true luxury product it shouldn't matter which factory they make it in. That would be a terrible reason if that was the case. Still though the German made Maybachs don't have the customization of a Bentley or Rolls so I don't see the plant as the issues. It's bean counters and designers that not stepping up to the plate. If you're going to truly tackle Bentley and Rolls then you invest in whatever plant you're building these in.

I thought I would check the GLS options as an alternative. How about this GLS580 in the same brilliant blue colour and with an AMG trim with 23inch wheels with interior in 2 tone machiato/black leather, open pore walnut brown wood, rear multicontour seats, driver assistance package (semi-autonomous), Burmeister base sound system (not high end), panoramic sunroof, rear comfort package, augmented reality navigation.

Price - 128K Euro, a huge 70K less than the Maybach version.I kitted out and 30K cheaper than the base Maybach spec.

Ok the GLS580 has 50kw less power than the Maybach also but you have to ask yourself does that extra rear legroom really add up to that much extra money?

I kitted out a GLS AMG 63 with 12K of extras (23inch wheels, some tech extras, 2 tone nappa, panoramic roof) and got 158K the same as a base spec Maybach....mmmm

I indicated in the S-Class thread that Mercedes did a fine job with the W222 S-Class interior in that it is elaborate (without the bling) to begin with and is a great platform for the Maybach packaging.

The GLS should have been gifted with a touch more of that elaborate detailing.
Keep in mind, it is sharing the dash design with the lesser GLE.

The Maybach package is a first for the GLS. The limited selection might be like a trial run before investing in more options. Those will probably come on facelift time if the Maybach package does well in sales.

I just went through configurator, as @GTA45E mentioned it’s in trail stage I guess. Even the double tone paint option is not there.

Im sorry to say but this thing looks like shit.

Good thing the Bentley and rolls do aswell.

but this is exceptionally distasteful to my eyes.

Its in the German configurator under the options list, it costs an unbelievable 20K Euros for the 2tone paintwork!!! That is truly an unnecessary expense, if they had some other interior options for that price with different colour leathers and woods under designo then maybe that could be justified but for 2 tone paint job...crazy stuff.

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
