GLS [Official] Mercedes-Maybach GLS (X167)

The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque's SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.

I don't like how the seat is way behind the end of the rear door. Getting in and out won't be so effortless like it should be. It needs enlongated wheelbase and much longer rear doors. Lazy job.
And the C column obstructs the view of the passenger.

Rolls-Royce does that in their vehicles and the Maybach S-class is similar. It adds privacy.

RR has suicide doors, which allow much easier ingress despite the seats being backwards. Also on the level of the legs the door and the seats are leveled (RR and S Maybach due to the longer wheebase allowing for almost a vertical line of the door not obstructed by the wheel arch). Also in both RR and S Maybach there is a third window improving the visibility, while privacy is achieved by curtains.

I love that interior of the Maybach I could live in that rear for hours and hours I would Its amazingly conformable.

Its the same with the Cullinan, the rear door is not long and the seat goes further to the the rear past the edge of the door.

The good thing about entry and exit of both SUV's is you just step in and out the car without really bending your head or neck unlike in a saloon like the Phantom or S-class Maybach.

Again, the RR has suicide doors. The whole process of getting in is totally different. In the Rolls this is specially designed, while with the GLS they had to do with whatever they have from the standard model and that's why it looks like an afterthought.

I don’t think stepping in & out is the biggest deal, it’ll be closing the door once u sat in rear of such seats. Thankfully RR is providing electrically operated doors with a button places so conveniently on C-pillar for rear & on extreme corner of dash for front. I have faced difficulty in closing the rear door without an external help in Maybach saloon.

If am not wrong Maybach 62 used to have electric door closer, how ever hope MB introduce it along the 223 S-class Maybach.

It's not the closing of the door. It's the manner of entering and the center of gravity of the body. With normal doors, when you enter the CoG is behind the foot (heel), so you don't have control over the movement of the weight. You just fall in the seat and when grabbing the handle you put too much strain on the wrist. The further backward the seat is, the worse. With the suicide doors, when entering, the CoG is in front of the foot, so you have perfect control over the weight and you just sit in the seat and you can interrupt the process if you want, while with normal doors once you have started the seating procedure you can not interrupt it, you just fall in the seat.

It's not the closing of the door. It's the man...

I'm still not entirely convinced this is an issue. Not one person that has gotten in and out of the GLS 600 has complained about getting out. Further, Mercedes went as far as to say this in their press release: "The SUV vehicle concept has a major advantage for the luxury segment: the high seating position. In combination with the running boards, this makes access and egress outstandingly easy and convenient."

Yah man, itching to see a proper review and comparisons of this one.

I was chatting with my friend in MB-Dubai, he said the show car (suppose to be the same in video) is still lying in Dubai showroom, it was suppose to be back to Germany in March. In Dubai it was good response from customer end and has received over 30 confirm orders.

Yeah the virus likely stalled all plans of anything. Now we're seeing a glut of cars from everywhere being introduced this week.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
