SLK/SLC [Official] Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.
^ Jesmb & MB Passion now anticipate the SLK (R172) facelift in 2015. :)

Fix the lights and give it a smaller grille, that is all it needed IMO. The back and side are spot on for a little roadster. It will likely get the new stand up screen too I bet.

Go park the first SLK against the new one and see although it is approaching 20 years old since its launch in 1996. The first one still looks fantastic compared to the current car. Visually its a mess all straight angles at the front and then all curved and rounded at the rear it just does not gel properly. You only have to look at the first generation to see design and content in perfection.

Must be the new math, 1996 to 2014 is even 20 years yet.

I would guess the U.S. market will get the SLK300 with 241hp and the SLK400 with the 329hp turbo V6. The AMG model should get the new 4.0L V8 with like 450hp.

No amount of face lifting will fix this horrid looking thing. Is the current SLK selling as well as its predecessor so far?

MB just needs to apply what they have now with the GT to the SLC and the SL. When the new E-Class line up debuts, the ML, GL, SL and SLK will look ancient. At least the ML and GL facelifts appear to refresh those cars (no refresh is enough for the ML though) but the SLK and SL should have a shorter life time in order to get a radical replacement.

I think the SL can be saved with a good facelift. The car is a quality piece, but those front and rear ends are just too big. I don't have a problem with the SLK outside of it's too big headlights.

Mercedes-Benz SLC starts testing ahead of early 2016 reveal
Facelifted Mercedes SLK to morph into new SLC as part of range-wide name changes, with styling, interior and mechanical upgrades planned

The first prototypes of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz SLK have hit public roads in Germany ahead of a planned unveiling at the Detroit motor show in early 2016.

The facelifted two-seater will be renamed SLC as part of a series of recently announced changes to Mercedes' naming strategy.

The car is planned to receive a number of subtle exterior styling tweaks aimed at carrying it through to 2018, when an all-new, fourth-generation model is scheduled to appear.

Among those changes is the new rear bumper and altered tailpipe treatment sported by the prototype pictured above.

Further planned changes not yet adopted on the early engineering mules – spied testing close to Mercedes-Benz’s research and development centre on the outskirts of Stuttgart this week – include a reworked front bumper styled to provide the SLC with a more pronounced grille treatment. Company insiders describe the grille as being reminiscent of that of the new GT.

The new front-end styling will be allied to new headlamps with integral LED daytime running lamps and updated internal graphics, a revised bonnet, altered chrome highlights within the flanks, restyled exterior mirror housings, wider sills underneath the doors and a new range of alloy wheel designs.

Revisions to the SLK’s folding hard-top roof are also planned to provide it with speedier operation, although its basic shape is not expected to alter in the change to SLC.

Inside, Mercedes-Benz plans comprehensive upgrades to provide the SLC with a more premium feel. Among the new changes will be new instruments, round ventilation units, new switchgear and a revised Comand infotainment system featuring a larger, free-standing monitor and simplified operation through an altered rotary dial.

Mercedes is remaining tight-lipped on the mechanical changes planned for its rear-wheel-drive roadster, although sources confirm a revised turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine will provide the new SLC250 with an additional 7bhp over the existing SLK250, at 211bhp.

Further up the range, a new turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 is also planned to replace the naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6, to provide a new SLC400 with 26bhp more than the outgoing SLK350, at 333bhp.

The prototype pictured above is thought to be one of an extended line of future AMG Sport models. Likely to badged SLC450, it is planned to run a more highly tuned version of the new turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with 367bhp.

At the top of the line-up, the SLK55 will make way for a new SLC63 model. It eschews the existing range-topping model’s 415bhp naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 for the new 503bhp twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 from the GT.

Gearbox choices will include a standard six-speed manual on four-cylinder engines and either a seven-speed or nine-speed automatic in combination with the updated V6 and V8 units.

The SLK250 should become the 241hp SLC300 IMO, but I like the sound over everything else. Maybe they will do both for different markets. I think we will see it before Jan 2016 though.

Changes for the new model year according to MB Passion will include the 9G in the SLK 250 d and SLK 300. The SLK 250 d replaces the SLK 250 CDI, and the SLK 300 with 245 hp the SLK 250. The M271 will be replaced by the M274 thus increasing the SLK 200's power by 30 kW and the torque from 270 to 300 Nm. The facelift is expected towards the end of the year and should come to market in early 2016.
