SLK/SLC [Official] Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.
So AMG will have 5 engines in production when this one debuts. The new 5.5, the 6.2, the 6.2 in the SLS, the 6.0L V12 and the one thats on its way out, the old 5.5L SC V8.

M

^Are they still making the supercharged 5.5 V8? But I think your count is right even with out it-
M152 (5.5 NA), M156 (6.3 NA), M157 (5.5 TT), M159 (6.3 NA in SLS), M275 (6.5l TT).

And that is with out counting M158 in Huarya and they are probably still building the odd M120 for the custom ordered Zondas.

Edit - just realized they are still building the SC V8 for G55, so I guess that makes it 6.

Won't be long now....as the engineers eat at McDonalds.

M

Boy, those germans do know how to eat--so much so that they are forgetting the importance of "LEAKING" info about the SLK55 AMG...compare to the competition (AUDI, PORSCHE, BMW) MB's got lot of catching up to do. oh well, I hope McDonalds release these people soon:D

Mercedes-Benz will show at the upcoming CES in Las Vegas how an intelligently networked vehicle becomes part of the internet of things.
In the runup to the huge consumer electronics show, the German premium car maker signed an agreement with Pebble Technology to develop new integrated applications for its cars. Pebble is a Silicon-Valley startup that makes a smart watch that talks to your mobile phone.

When does the face lifted SLK show up ? Must be later this year ?

On a side note, I can't see people in Switzerland removing their watches to put a 'Pebble' on. A smart phone App would be nice.

IMO, Mercedes needs to do way more than what these pictures reveal. The SLK has one of the nicest tails in the business, but it doens't go with the front of the car at all. I despise how the a-pillars clumsily run into the front fenders.
on this type of car the top of the fender line should run congruent with the window line, and the a-pillars should dive into the hoods cut accent lines.
There is literally nothing I like about the front end of an SLK. The lights are terrible and boring, both in shape and internals. The grill, with that open mesh above and closed mesh below looks like an afterthought.

Agreed 100%. The trouble with the SLK is that there's not one but a multitude of things wrong with its design. Front the awkward A-pillar like you mentioned, to the off-set navigation screen when compared to the center IP. Then there's the rounded-rear conflicting with the blunt, squarish front. Those faux-vents on the fenders don't help either.

Regrettably, the Z4 has a far more cohesive design language, even though it's older, than this mess.

Suspect the update might land after the AMG GT / SLC (C190) and take some design cues from it? :)

Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class: Models and sketches from the draft design stage. One striking feature is the upright radiator grille that stands proud and confident in the wind. The design idiom shows a living, sporty presence and is also sculptural. It expresses personality and sensuality. Source: Daimler

Fix the front end on the SLK and it will be perfect. Specifically the lights and grille, they are way too big. Those sketches look much better.

The Vario roof of the SLK 55 AMG CarbonLOOK Edition is now also available in polar white and palladium silver. :)
