Yep I was just thinking the same thing. It is the best SL in ages, but the looks are just off. It has completely fallen off my radar for anything. The AMG models look a little better, but the front and rear are just too long and the body too isn't sleek enough. I don't even think a facelift can help it much.

How is the SL ownership so far?

Yep I was just thinking the same thing. It is the best SL in ages, but the looks are just off. It has completely fallen off my radar for anything. Ferrari worked their magic on the California T, there is still hope with this SL post face lift.

Owned mine without complaint. Fun, great to have a convertible when I wanted it, and a secure car when I didn't, superlative engine, suspension that makes the car feel hundreds of pounds lighter than it is. Traded it for a 6 series. More room, tremendous engine, a real trunk, better looks, easier ingress/egress.

Compare new SL65 AMG to previous model power jumped up only 13kw from 450kw to 463kw while the SL63 AMG has ballooned from 386kw to 430kw which is a huge 44Kw increase. It seems AMG are not that concerned that the SL63 is creeping up to become very close to the SL65 in power/torque and performance! Is it because the SL63 is a more popular seller and the SL65 only has limited sales?

If they can change the front light to eliminate that vertical section near the grill and also take out that ugly fish eye type graphic and daylight running light design it would make a huge difference. The back lights also need a big rethink they make the boot look too flat almost like an elephant sat on the trunk!

Very good reason! I never thought about that before! Yep it will be too close to the Huayra! Ok so this engine still has lots of room for improvement in the SL65AMG! I am glad to know AMG supply engines to my favourite Supercar in the world, the most beautiful, sensual and magnificently crafted Pagani!

The AMG GT is going to affect the SL. That car looks more what an SL should be it even uses the outline of the classic SL Gullwing.

The GT puts an end to the SL reign as the dream Mercedes. Note now the rumored switch back to canvas roof and possibly a back seat , which in my perception is a move back for SL to a 6-series class (which I consider on a class with the 5er or the E as opposed to the SL, which has traditionally been on the flagship ranks with the S and the CL). Perhaps it is the changing of times and the widening of the range.

Since the SL 63 AMG with 537 PS was discontinued, suspect we'll now have these roadsters:

I love this SL every damn thing about it..besides the headlights,they WILL adress it with the FL..

Its a brilliant hard top roadster, probably one of if not THE best for sale.

The GT actually looks like the Jaguar E Type. I am sure Mercedes is putting a lot of effort on the facelift of the SL.

How do they compare in terms of the quality of engineering inside and out, because the SL should be a class above?

MBUSA has just added the SL400 to lineup here in the U.S. The SL400 is a whopping 20K cheaper than the SL550.

I don`t think a face/lift is going to happen any time soon. You guys have to remember, the SL is the icon of Mercedes.
The SLs stay in the production cycle a lot longer than any other Benz. The previous SL was in production from 2003-2012. It did not get a face lift till 2008 if I remember correctly. If Mercedes follows this path, we might not see a face/lift till 2018.

It is all good except the current SL has a horrible front end that needs to be fixed asap.
