Wow this simply beautiful and elegant it's almost as if after the C class launch I love the S even more ...The above pics are just majestic that colour wow.

@Mick Briesgau your knees are going to hit thr MB dealership soon ...I still feel you will end up in a New S ...

I spotted this unicorn today! A green W223 S500 with a green exterior and beige upholstery.

It's super rare to see the S-Class at Merc dealerships in the UK. You might mistaken it for an S-Class abandoned at Dubai airport. It's covered in sand that's been carried by wind form the Sahara Desert, making it hopeless to photograph.

So, what do you think?

So, what do you think?
On the web the W223 csn come across like another Russian dolls Mercedes saloon. I had big reservations about horizontal tail lights on an elegant Merc.

In person, the rear is an absolutely delight. It makes the S-Class look genuinely new. Forget the CLS, the tail lights on the S-Class are much more harmonious with the rest of the design.

Lastly the size and presence of the car makes it less mistakable for an E-Class or oversized C-Class.

As far as big infotainment screens go, the W223 has one of the best integrations so far. It's a shame that my prospects of driving one is zero.

... And this time the industry is changing in a much bigger way, and changes happen much faster.

A very valid point.

The automotive industry is now in the midst of an upheaval never yet witnessed in its' history. And the neck-snapping pace of the dynamics are massively challenging the most seasoned of traditional manufacturers. One current case in point are the developments now engulfing JLR (especially Jaguar), leaving its' destiny nearly impossible to predict. The fortunes of M-B and BMW are highly dependant on how the consuming public receives their upcoming BEVs'. The perceived security of "givens" such as the E-Class, S-Class, 3er, 5er, etc + ICE SUVs' will soon evaporate more rapidly than an icecube in the Sahara. As far as VAG is concerned: While they appear most committed, certain inconsistencies have surfaced. Audi CEO Markus Duesmann recently made statements that could be construed as "diminishing the importance of range in favor of lighter batteries and highly sophisticated infrastructures" regarding BEVs'. Perhaps I've misconstrued the statement, but to me, this appears neither very convincing nor does it strike me as being very clever. Unless, of course, available funding makes ubiquitous inductive "charging while driving" something far removed from utopia. Alas, until we are actually there, Herr Duesmann may be well advised to take a good look at Tesla and Lucid when it comes to batteries and range before making easily misinterpreted elaborations.

I thought you guys would find this as an interesting comparison.

I have gotten test data from the 2018 AMS Test of the W222 S450 vs BMW 740i and also included the new S500 W223 to compare.

Some observations of the W223 vs W222 both SWB versions.

1) The W223 has 70mm more front elbow room (1610 vs 1540) and 15mm more rear elbow room (1570 vs 1555).
2) The W223 has 65mm more rear legroom (810 vs 745)
3) With 10deg RWS it has a turning circle of 1.5m less (10.4m vs 11.9m)
4) W223 S500 is 44kg heavier than W222 S450, (2127kg vs 2083kg)
5) W223 has steering with 2.25 turns lock to lock vs 2.5 for W222
6) W223 has a 20ltr bigger boot (550 vs 530)
7) Steering wheel diameter reduced from 380mm to 375mm
8) The braking distance of W223 has been reduced hugely compared to W222, from 100 to 0 - 33.4m vs 36.5m and from 190 to 0 - 120.6m vs 136.3m
9) Noise levels have been reduced in W223 compared to W222. At 100km/h - 60db vs 62db and at 160km/h - 68db vs 69db.
10) Fuel consumption has been reduced by 13% overall (9.8ltr/100km vs 11.1ltr/100km)
