No offence to you still I wouldn't call a brand/car worst just for few minor lapses. Then again who am I to say this, I do not own an S or any car of this sort so I do not know what customer expectations are for cars like these. Hope the car wont disappoint you further.

Well I think it's clear Mick is saying it's the worst he has owned in terms of some quality/reliability issues. Obviously not as a car overall.

That said, I'd be hugely surprised if the A8 and 7-series fare any better than the S, even in the later years of their lifecycles. The G11 is undoubtedly going to have 'teething' issues.

No offence taken, Amat46.
You call it 'minor lapses', I call it inacceptable for a car that claimes such high level of sophistication. And sophisticated it is, but those quality issues are just inacceptable for a S-Klasse, at least in my book. Mr. Mercedes first sentence (see above) describes exactly what I meant to say with respect to 'worst S-Klasse'.
Mick I am really surprised and saddened to hear about the problems you are facing with your W222, hoping that these will not change your view of the brand and then change to a G11 BMW 7-series as your next car! :)
Thanks, Rolf. It won't change my view of the brand Mercedes-Benz. Not changing to a G11 BMW 7er however, I can't promise.

I can smell it, Mick is already in love with the G11.
But if he buys one, it will have problems too. These cars are too technical for their own good, you are bound to run into something eventually.

Being a Merc Fan and especially a S class fan, its so saddening to hear the quality issues with the latest S class and I have read the same elsewhere. Once again Mercedes is loosing its grip on important issues to maintain brand equity and focusing on increasing their production with extra models IMO. They did well for a while in the late 2000 and early part of this decade. But they are never back to the levels of early 1990s when they were on the top.

With all these issues, would I like to drive a driverless Mercedes car........OH NO!

It´s such a shame to read these things about the S-Class.

If I were you Mick I would give the G11 a drive. It will be an entirely new car as well, so there is no guarantee you don´t find the same or even more problems with it, but there is always the possibility BMW has done their homework.

^I read recently a report on the reliability of auto brands in UK and Mercedes was quite down on the list. However, if I remember correctly BMW and Audi were even further down and the ironic part was that Porsche was also quite down on the list. I guess the marriage with VW has taken its toll on the fabled sports/suv brand. Honda was at the top with other Japanese brands.

BMW motorcycles are not doing good either in reliability. I read a report on yahoo on the reliability of motorcycle brands and once again the top brands were all Japanese.

The German brands are reminding me the story of golden goose......get all the golden eggs TODAY by leveraging the brand names built over decades. IMO.

This doesn't work in a large curve/turn...

I've tested it. I would not trust this system to keep you on the road. Not yet.

I wonder how many accidents have occurred with people just testing the systems ?

Very true. It doesn't work in "real curves." It only works on those slight bends on the interstate. Anything more than 15 degrees, it shuts down. This feature's main function is to save your butt if you're on the highway and lean over to turn the radio or search your compartments, not really to drive you.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while guys. Bought the wife an Audi A8 (which I will have to give a full comparison review on, because that vehicle is outstanding), and I've been driving this puppy....

@Kratos-TM, I'm very interested to hear your review. I love the facelifted Audi A8 and feel that its only real deficiency is ride quality over poorly maintained roads. Too much road noise and impacts are far too noticeable, imo. The Jaguar XJ rides similarly; to both the Jag and Audi's credit, they feel more athletic and light than the Benz.

Interesting to see that almost everything is painted orange (even the S400+Hybrid badge and the exhaust tail). The horizontal chrome strip and the Star however are not painted. @Wolfgang do you have an idea why those parts aren't painted but all the others are? Thanks!
