It seems it's more useful at lower speeds?
if used as an autopilot only, yes. After driving my car now for over 9 months (and 50.000 km), to my experience the benefit at all speeds is, that it takes some "load" of your shoulders. The car helps you steering/following the road. If Ive had a hard and long day at work, it's much appreciated that the car helps you driving you home. Sorry that I can't explain it clearer.

Up to 30 km/h it really functions as an autopilot (together with distronic), for instance in a traffic jam. You don't have to steer, break or use the gaspedal. At higher speeds it functions for about 20 seconds, then it warns you with a "hands on the wheel"symbol tot put your hands on the wheel again. Beside from what I've just said, during driving on you sometimes can feel how the system supports your steering movements.

What happens if you don't put your hands on steering wheel?

Just for shits and giggles - this is page 222 of the W222 thread. Worth a mehntion.
For that, here's a majestic S600:

And you can always strap on a can of soda to get rid of that "put your hands back on the steering wheel" message.

This doesn't work in a large curve/turn...

I've tested it. I would not trust this system to keep you on the road. Not yet.

I wonder how many accidents have occurred with people just testing the systems ?

I wonder who would find it inconvenient to put a hand on the wheel. I can't think of a more natural resting place for my hands when driving.

I have been in my friend's car before when his dad was driving with his knees while he ate a bowl of noodles.
