I couldn't resist and saw it as well. Sometimes you wish for a "good-taste-police" or something like that. It's criminal

Clicked on the F12 thread and saw something similar to the poor SLR :banghead:
Oh....OHHHHHHHHHHH.....I just saw that on the F12 thread..it is almost on the same level as the SLR.

As some of you may know, I was lucky enough to drive an S 500 4MATIC (W222) for 24 hours earlier this week. The pictures can be found here, and the fuel consumption figures can be found here.

What an epic car. It's sublime. I can see why people regard it as the best car in the World. In my opinion it occupies a territory all on its own. Above that of the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series, and below that of the Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The car I drove had lots of the gadgets such as night vision, radar cruise, massaging and ventilating seats. They all just work. Perfectly. The massaging seats were really useful and not gimmicky. The ambient lights were the best I've seen in a car. The night vision is perfectly placed in the instrument dials, which move away cleverly when it's activated. There's even an option to have the night vision working in the back ground and only activate if it spots something of interest. The radar cruise system was flawless, unlike the Audi A8 I drove the day before.

It was actually a great contrast to have spent three days driving an A8 immediately before the S-Class. The ride was so much better in the S-Class. Speed bumps were treated like they didn't exist. It was quite amazing. I wasn't sure if this car had Magic Body Control however. Surprisingly, the S-Class felt a LOT smaller than the A8. It also looked a lot smaller, even though it isn't. I guess that's the difference in styling.

The V8 engine was interesting. It wouldn't be my choice considering the fuel prices in Europe, but it was a very different feeling to my experiences in the R8 and M135i. Whereas those cars feel more explosive and responsive, the S-Class feels very docile, even in "Sport" mode in the gearbox and suspension.....that is until you learn how far you have to press the accelerator pedal. Once pressed far enough the scenery does move very quickly, but it's like you're being suddenly pushed from behind by a strong wind.

Anyway, I can't really say much more other than all the plaudits it receives are deserved.

Here are a few videos I filmed of the S-Class Nothing particularly spectacular, but I thought I'd post them anyway.

No, it was the V8:D

(Look closely, and you'll see the car is in D7 - in 7th gear. Besides, I believe 9G is still limited in production, and can be ordered only with S 500 Coupe (RWD, not 4MATIC one). Plus some CLS and E Class models).

If it says ABC between the suspension modes, then it has MBC.

Did you get to try the autopilot feature of the cruise control?

I'm not sure. I used the radar cruise. Is autopilot something different?
The "autopilot"is engaged when a little green steering wheel can be seen on the screen behind the steering wheel. Can be activated with a button left of the steering wheel (same place where Night Vision can be activated)

Ah yes. I did try that and to be honest I didn't notice it doing anything. What is it supposed to do exactly? I thought it would keep me in the lane but it didn't at all so I turned it off.

Up to 30 km/h it really functions as an autopilot (together with distronic), for instance in a traffic jam. You don't have to steer, break or use the gaspedal. At higher speeds it functions for about 20 seconds, then it warns you with a "hands on the wheel"symbol tot put your hands on the wheel again. Beside from what I've just said, during driving on you sometimes can feel how the system supports your steering movements.

Thanks for the explanation. It seems it's more useful at lower speeds? I never tried it at low speeds so next time I drive the S-Class, and it has this function, I will give it a try.
