In my opinion, in terms of design, A8's beats the S Class. And if Audi succeed this with a facelift, I wonder how will stay things after new Audi A8 will be revealed! Also, don't forget that BMW prepare the new 7 series. I always was a S-class fan, but I don't think this new S-class will be enough to compete, on long term, with BMW and Audi.

To me the head lights are extremely good looking, if anything then the Rearlights might be to much of a evolution from the W221

Sorry I still don't get it, that A8 is too boxy. if being boxy is the criteria for a good design, then yes you are right. The S on the other hand is sticking on to how all other previous generation S classes were been, pinnacle of technological advancement with classy timeless design.

Please tell us on which planet will the S Class struggle to compete with the A8.

Because on planet Earth the S class has never struggled to beat the A8.

I do not have the worldwide figures but a couple of days ago I do remember reading this - the figures for Australia for this segment for 2013 -

1. BMW 7 Series - 75
2. Mercedes S Class (w221) - 62
3. Porsche Panamera - 67
4. Lexus LS - 53
5. Jaguar XJ - 40

No that ain't right..the dude said that it wont be able to compete. Hence he got told what reality is.
Then he said he likes the A8 more, to which i said fair enough.

Audi design does nothing for me. Lacks basically..........everything. No soul, no curves, no passion. Now tech-wise, that's a different story....

BMW has more soul than Audi.....but "same car, different size" approach doesn't work for me either.

The C and the S have had a look alike relationship for years starting with the W126 and the W201 of the day. The W203 and W220 looked a lot alike too, its called a family resemblance, buy unlike Audi most people can tell Mercedes' apart from each other. What you're talking about is nothing new.
