S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222 Facelift) 2017-2020

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
is the lifecycle of the w222 expected to be 7 years or 8 years?
W221 intro 2005, FL 2009, new S 2013 (8 years).
W222 intro 2013, FL 2017, new S 2021? I wouldn’t be surprised if it stays ‘till 2021. It’s still selling very well and gives MB more time to develop complicated autonomous technique.

What a stunner... Is this cavansite blue?

What a beautiful car. W223 in my opinion has once again established Mercedes place at the top regardless of the price bracket just like the top S cars before W140. And the dropping line.... I just love it. 7 series and A8 need the Rolls and Bentley to compete with this car.

Current S Class still looks gorgeous and fresh. Interior is wonderful. It’s a roaring success and the rightful leader of the segment. Stunning job MB!

As perfect as this S-class is, i wouldn't object to a 2nd facelift.

-Add MBUX. Add next gen autonomous driving. Exterior and interior refresh.
This chassis is bliss.

Exactly, the only car that will date the current S class is the next S class, if MB do a good job with it.

I wouldn’t have any objections myself. As far as MBUX is concerned, that doesn’t bring much more than a touchscreen possibility. The current Comand NTG 5.5 already offers for instance the advanced linguatronic/voicecontrol...

Yes I read somewhere that NTG 5.5 incorporates much of MBUX apart from the touchscreen. This is a fairly good outcome IMO.

I also read an article in Wheels Magazine that Mercedes were quite impressed by the implementation of autonomous driving tech in the A8 and how Audi had overcome a number of obstacles related to the technology, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they wish to ensure the S is a significant step in autonomous driving.

I couldn't care less about it as I like to drive, but I get why they have to do it.

@DeDe my friend do you have the scan comparison with the S400 d and S450 in latest AMS mag? I think this is a highly interesting comparison that @Mick Briesgau would be interested in :D

I don't see this video posted here or in the Mercedes Benz media thread, perhaps I need to look harder...

Still, it's worth slotting this in the S-Class thread too.

Pretty powerful stuff. I remember that ad running in SA like it was yesterday.
I also must add that I way prefer "Engineered like no other car in the world" over the pretentious "The Best or Nothing" catchphrase. My grandfather had the same W123 - he was chuffed as chips when that ad came out.

That advert literally helped propel Mercedes Benz to a level of automobile safety that was benchmark stuff in those days. I still remember driving along Chapman's drive when I was a kid and my dad was driving a 1975 W116 350SE at the same time this advert came out and he could never stop talking about it feeling quite proud that he had bought that S-class for our family. He was really chuffed with that car as it was also built like a tank with incredible heavy doors that closed like a bank vault. We always felt very safe and comfortable in that 350SE.

WOW powerful stuff. Are they going to bring that slogan back now? That would be great. That said, cars were tanks then, a modern S-Class driver won't survive such a crash I'm sure.

Best advert I've seen in a long time.

And they didn't muck about and give him a base S, they gave him a loaded S63.

I'm quite sure a modern S would've faired better under all same conditions. From W221 to W222 alone torsional rigidity increased nearly 45% percent.

Mercedes W221 S-class 27,500 Nm/deg
Mercedes W222 S-class 40,500 Nm/deg

The torsional rigidity is a critical parameter, which measures how much force is needed to “twist” the car body frame by one degree. The larger of the value, the better.

"Built like tanks" is a tactile perception.
