S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222 Facelift) 2017-2020

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
I prefer the new rear and the old face .... based on the pics at least.

Can we take a break from all the fancy AMG packages
and see the face/lift S in its normal clothes.

Good sleuthing, ol' chap!

Comparison shows how much better post-FL looks, IMO. Rear there is no contest. Front is more debatable, but I personally find the bumper more high-end on the post FL.

For me there is no doubt that the facelifted rear end is better than predecessor. The front is making me confused. In some pictures the facelifted front looks better and in others the pre-facelift looks better. The braces are not of my taste. I did not like them on the S650 Maybach and I don't like it here. The front bumper with braces appears cheesy. Maybe it will look OK in real life.

Also, in some pictures the front of the facelifted W222 resembles a lot with W116 in profile. Maybe the squarish headlamps are a homage to the past.

@Merc1, you mentioned that the lack of power is what will turn people off from the S450 versus an LS, thus my above explanation. But what may be the deciding factor in getting an LS over an S450 will probably not be the lack of power but the lack of content. I bet, once it's released, you could get a very well equipped LS (i.e. all the significant options except the Exec Rear package) and the price would hover around $93-95K. While a similarly equipped S450 would surpass the $100K mark. That's probably what would deter a customer more than anything.

I think that a price difference of $5000 to $7000 is not the deciding factor for choosing LS over the S. The S commands more prestige and recognition IMO and the buyer of these cars are not as price sensitive. Its rather the brand name that can be the key factor. People who like Lexus experience will go for LS and the Mercedes customers will choose the S. The design of the car may also play a role. Some may be turned off by the not so classic LS exterior appearance but brand orientation is the major reason IMO.

Yeah I'm thinking that for the 2019 model year in the U.S, the GLC, GLE, C, E and S will all get versions of the new I6. Hopefully we'll see the first I6 models revealed this fall at Frankurt. The E50 with 455hp should be up first in sedan/coupe/cabrio form. Hopefully MBUSA has the sense to offer an E400 Sedan in between the E300 and E50, with 365hp or so hp. The gulf between a E300 with the new I4 at 272hp and the E50 with reported 455hp is too great and doesn't make any sense.

M
apparently the S350L is using the m256 engine, but there is no official source about the hp of the car. The chinese media published it as 313ps though(but they may not be reliable)

A rumor said the new m256 I6 engine will replace the V8 except AMG model in the future, this is reason why Mercedes don't use it at first time, the want to last V8's life for a while.

that could certainly be one of the reason why they held back the release of the m256 engine, there is only one v8 non amg model left and that is the s560 .

I am waiting to see the specs for the 560SeC. Most probably going to be a 400bhp inline 6 engine + 50bhp electric motor or there abouts.

Some pics of Maybach S680 from the launch. I just loved those wheels, it look more majestic in the sedan than on the cabriolet.

I felt it like the combination of two of my favorite wheels on pre-FL Maybach.

I came across this in official site, so I guess the plated forged wheel will continue with new Maybach too, but in the new the wheel nutts have been covered.

Love them all, looks good. Just wish they pushed the I6 to the front with the S450/400 and the S65 got a power boost and 4Matic.
