The V222 is the only LWB car in its' segment that doesn't look like an afterthought. And it actually wasn't when it was designed.
Especially in the configuration shown in this video, it looks marvelous.
imo this pic shows that the FL changes were done for the better overall..
The FL has the amg pack, pre doesn't, big difference. I still feel facelift moves the S-Klasse sideways in terms of aesthetics. Tech is probably brought up to speed from 4 years ago...imo this pic shows that the FL changes were done for the better overall..
Totally agree on this one. After the FL the preFL W221 immediately looked old and dated. You can't say the same about the W222 FL and preFL.The prefacelift still look quite nice; it's not like the W221 where you had to upgrade to the LED strip crazed times of the late 2000's & sharper styling.
IMO the pre FL W221 was never a great design and there were some unfinished touches, specially around the headlights and the front bumper design. The W222 is far more elegant and the design elements are much better resolved.Totally agree on this one. After the FL the preFL W221 immediately looked old and dated. The new wheels look awesome..and also a very nice analysis of MB wheel history @hannaz, there is indeed a pattern of evolution going on..![]()
Came across this new wheel in MBUSA site. I couldn't find it in any other country sites, is it only for US market? And is it the replacement of the S600 19inch wheels as below? May be @Wolfgang can get us any inputs.

However Mercedes had this similar elegant multi-spoke wheels for the last few generation since W116, but revolutionised accordingly.

Mercedes have also updated plated forge wheels for Maybach series with another two designs.

I think Mercedes have came out with the plated wheels from W140 onwards and it have seen in each generations

@Monster, W221 pre FL front was indeed a bit unsolved. Looking in your mirror, seeing one approaching, it seemed to me a smaller car than it really was. Seeing it Mopf/FL in your mirror, it looked significant different, though the true measurements weren't changed.
My opinion only.
Spot on..the W221 still looks solidly elegant today and has aged extremely well pre FL or FL imo..I am not a designer at all, but I can't see "unfinished" and "unsolved" here. Every line is in its place. You either like it or not.

I don't like the look of the headlamps nevertheless.
But 221 had a solid presence. It was so solidly looking that was killing every other car. The same with W140. 222 is another thing. It is very beautiful and elegant. It makes people say WOW, but not as solid as 221. My opinion only.
It's funny how the grilles on these older cars suddenly look so small to me.I am not a designer at all, but I can't see "unfinished" and "unsolved" here. Every line is in its place. You either like it or not.

It varies from country to countrya question: but in the long-run version, is the letter L next to the template name still inserted?
example:
S 560 L 4 MATIC?
