I’m just worried on the details on both head & tail lights..it’s said it has 3D effect but a friend of mine who saw the car in person said it doesnt have any special attraction compared to its rivals. Is anyone who saw this have any difference of opinion?

Mercedes GLS 580 AMG Line (2020) In Beautiful Details

There's some interesting detailing in person but I don't think it brought anything new to the automotive industry. And honestly when the lights are off it's just business as usual.

Dune Drifting in the New 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS

To show off the overhauled GLS's off-road abilities, Mercedes takes us for a ride up and around a sand dune.

Mercedes-Benz's recently unveiled 2020 GLS is set to go on sale later this year, and we at Car and Driver are poised to spend some serious time behind the wheel. We look forward to lounging in its more generous second row and climbing into its adult-friendly third-row seats to bring you a full evaluation of the slightly bigger, luxed-up new large SUV. We're intrigued by claimed substantial improvements in noise reduction; Mercedes-Benz's SUV development chief, Andreas Zygan, says it's nearly 20 percent quieter, equaling the previous-generation S-class. We're eager to load up the cargo area, which is 21 percent bigger because Mercedes extended the cargo floor by 2.4 inches behind the third-row seat. And we also can't wait to try out its new carwash mode. Today, however, is not that day.

Testing the Active Suspension at Big Dune
To show off the new GLS's off-road abilities and its optional suspension, called E-Active Body Control, Mercedes gave us a ride in its three-row brute at Big Dune. This location, as its name makes obvious, is a large pile of sand about 100 miles west of Las Vegas that sprouts up from the desert seemingly out of nowhere.

Optional on the new GLS is the active suspension that first launched on little brother GLE. It works in conjunction with air springs that can raise or lower each corner independently by 3.9 inches while adding or subtracting as much as 1600 pounds of force by pumping hydraulic fluid to the top or bottom of each damper. It takes as much as 17 horsepower to run the hydraulics, aided by the 48-volt electrical architecture. The system uses a camera to scan the road about 450 feet ahead and preemptively adjusts before the wheels get to that spot. It won't come cheap, though, as it's an $8200 upgrade on the GLE.

With its seriously large 21- and 22-inch tires (the 22s have a section width of 325 mm in the rear, and the available 23s are 340 mm wide) aired down to 17 psi, the GLS did indeed conquer Big Dune one drifty curlicue at a time, although there's nothing like sand to make it feel as though the GLS580 could use double the power of its 483-hp V-8.

The fact that almost no customers will do this kind of off-roading is not the point, according to Zygan, who declared, "We want the car to be more capable than the driver." Mercedes, true to its "the best or nothing" tagline, is banking on a halo effect for consumers because its SUVs possess this surplus capability.

The active suspension also enables the funky bouncing feature shown above; its name, Free Driving Assist, is equally funky. It's there to help the GLS hump its way out of a moderate bind from a soft surface. It will most certainly be used more often to peacock at stoplights, a behavior which we admit to having tried (could this feature be any more Vegas appropriate?).

Definitive conclusions at this point are few. The front seats are supremely comfortable; the second row has a lot more available space; the V-8 sings with a muted refinement; and they are never, ever going to get all the sand out of these prototype GLSs.

I wonder if Rear Seat Entertainment preparation does provide the same content as the rear seat screens provided.

It states that rear seat passengers can view trip info, watch digital tv etc. through the rear seat entertainment system screens. I would expect the same interface to be available via the iPad/tablet holders plugged into the rear seat prep. docks via an app or sth.

Anyone?

I doubt that is going to be the case.

I dont believe in this render but just posting as I came across
I think the GLS would have looked more upmarket if it had the classic Mercedes grill fitted. That would make it look like the S-class of SUV's as the S-class doesnt come with the grill with the sportier large 3 pointed star in the middle.

Amazing suspension tech with this car. This video shows the big difference between the standard suspension and a car with E-Active Body Control, the car with E-Active stays amazingly flat over the sand dune bumps compared to the standard suspension. This will make it hugely comfortable over most bumps with supreme ride comfort.

That hoping feature is just a useless gimmick. I still say you could just as easily back up/reverse out of that situation without the car bouncing up and down.
