This is common on pre-production cars but unusual in a production unit. The GLSs I've been in (5 of them now) haven't had that same issue.

CHANGE YEAR 20/2 FOR THE GLS CAN BE ORDERED FROM OCTOBER 6, 2020

The modification year 20/2 can also be ordered for the GLS, which will change prices and equipment. The year of change will be produced from the 2nd decade in January 2021.

The engine range remains unchanged

With the change year 20/2, some basic prices for the GLS (X 167) will change upwards, while no engines will be omitted (each still including 16% VAT, whereby 19% will be due again for delivery in 2021!)

• GLS 350 d 4MATIC 85,920.50 euros
• GLS 400 d 4MATIC 90,300.20 euros
• GLS 450 4MATIC 88,090.40 euros
• GLS 580 4MATIC 107,909 euros

The previously optional memory package (P64) will be included in the standard scope of the GLS 350 d, 400 d and 450 in the future. The Energizing Package (PBP) will also be part of the standard scope of the GLS 580 in the future.

For the GLE model, an AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system will be available as an option for 4,872 euros. The Remote Services Premium (34U) are now available for all models for 290 euros including VAT.

The following equipment will be omitted from the modification year 20/2:

• Pre-equipment for vehicle setup (08U or 09U) is replaced by Remote Services Plus (33U)
• Elimination of assisted parking in and out of parallel parking spaces, perpendicular parking function remains in place (if the parking package is equipped with 360 degree camera code P47 and Active Parking Assist with Parktronic (235)
• Preparation for entertainment and comfort (Code 866)
• Elimination of rough leather / two-tone leather, espresso brown / black (214)
• Elimination of rough leather / two-tone leather tartufo brown / black (284)

The AMG Line Exterior will in future be slightly increased in price by around 120 euros (depending on the engine). The Energizing Package Plus for the GLS 580 will be charged at 1,682 euros in future, the black nappa leather upholstery (951) at 2,030 euros.

Changes to the equipment:

• Burmester Surround & High-End 3D Surround System (Code 810.811) receives a different coating of the speaker grilles (looks slightly bluish)
• Elimination of the net in the passenger footwell
• No bagdes on the floor mats
• Extended functions MBUX: Introduction of Smart Home Integration as a new feature for the voice assistant “Hey Mercedes”
• Driver assistance package Code 23P): Introduction of the turning function in the active Brake Assist, introduction of the end of traffic jam function for DISTRONIC, rescue lane function, elimination of the active lane change assistant
• Driving Assistance Package Plus: Extended restarting for up to 60 seconds in Stop & Go traffic, as well as improved driving after traffic jams up to 60 km/h.

MERCEDES-BENZ GLS 400 4MATIC SURPRISES IN “HYPERMILING”

The colleagues from Asphalt.art took a closer look at the GLS 400 4MATIC - in “hypermiling” with a surprising range of over 1,700 km. An extreme test, but this shows the efficiency of the drive.

Hypermiling: with a 90 liter tank and a vehicle weight of 2.5 tons

The word creation “Hypermiling” comes from the USA, where consumption is calculated according to miles per gallon. In the States, the typical “hypermiler” are a sporty community who want to go as far as possible on one tank of fuel. The GLS 400 d seems to be a bad test candidate, especially since the in-line six-cylinder with 330 hp and 700 Nm has to move a vehicle weight of over 2.5 tons - without luggage and people.

In the driving test - with 3.1 bar air pressure all around and, of course, reduced speed - the largest SUV model from Mercedes-Benz showed itself from the best side: with the 90 liter fuel tank you covered 1,716 km, with a consumption of 5.4 liters. Quite clearly: it looks different in everyday life, but it is definitely interesting to know what is theoretically possible at all.

The GLS: the "Luxury Large SUV"

For Mercedes-Benz, the GLS is the epitome of the “Luxury Large SUV”, which the third generation of the model also confirms in its positioning as the “S-Class among SUVs”. The series began in 2006 with the X164 series and was produced until 2012. The second generation as the X 166 series was introduced in 2012, before the current X 167 series rolled out to dealers for the first time in 2019.
