GL-Class (X166) [Official] Mercedes-Benz GLS Class (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz X166 is the second generation GL-Class range of full-size luxury crossover SUV. The facelifted version was renamed to GLS. Production: June 2012 – April 2019. Model years: 2013–2019
Lunar blue looks for me still better than Brilliant blue. I'm fascinated. :)

Brilliant blue would look fine when dressed up. Especially when paired with porcelain or saddle interior. Think GLS550 or GLS63 AMG. Here's a YouTube clip of a GLE-coupe in brillant blue and it looks absolutely stunning.

It's about time Mercedes-Benz open their color palette up. I'm tired of seeing white, black and 50 shades of grey.
Beautiful colour and rims, nice combo. (y)
Just i dont like black colour for interior. Beige or brown are much better choice. Every other colour is better than black IMO. :wave4:

I agree with you. Especially dark brown give me a feeling of a lounge character. :)

All Mercedes had to do with the GLE and GLS is design a new radio/head unit to go wit that screen, it would have made a world of difference.

One of my neighbor bought a standard GLS in white, it is one horrible looking thing, tall, narrow with small wheels. Looks like a fridge on wheels.

Suspect MB is working on a new generation already, to appear towards the end of the decade. In the meantime the chairman of the MBUSA dealerboard indicates MB might not be able to produce enough GLS this year? He is already sold out on the Bentley Bentagya if I remember correctly. There's a truck craze going on at present. :)

What are the major challenges for Mercedes-Benz dealers in 2016?

Getting the balance of trucks and cars right. The market is really moving toward SUVs, and we would like to get a larger allocation of SUVs to meet the demand of the marketplace, so we've asked Mercedes-Benz to see what they can do to increase production of SUVs.

Do you have an answer yet?

They're very interested in getting more SUVs as well. They've indicated we will get a few more SUVs [in 2016 compared with 2015]. How many is yet to be determined. We have the all-new GLC, which will add significant volume in that segment.

Does the brand need more production of the crossover models it already has or are there segments where it should introduce another nameplate?

Mercedes-Benz competes in all the SUV segments, so I don't see any big gaps that need to be filled. The dealers are more interested in getting more production of existing models.

Of the brand's crossover models, which are most in demand and in need of more production?

All of them. We can't keep enough trucks in inventory.

We've heard a lot from dealers about especially being in need of the GLE and GLC.

GLC has been really well-received by our customers. We're looking forward to getting the new GLS this year. I'm sure we will not build enough to satisfy customer demand.

THE NEXT GENERATION GLS (X167)

A test mule of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLS variant (X167) was caught for the first time near Stuttgart. However to what extent this is a GLS or the next GLE with approximately 60 mm longer wheelbase, we can not be sure - as the X167 series is not expected before October 2018.

The upcoming 167 series should not only receive a wide screen cockpit with touchpad but possibly also a touchscreen. In addition to a new ABC suspension with road recognition we expect 4Matic with torque on demand and an "e" variant with an electric range of about 100 km. The 3rd row is retained, and expect up to 22 inch wheels.

I hate to say it, but even covered up it doesn't look like a Mercedes, looks like completely Asian. That ride height and the proportions look really iffy. Too early to tell much, but interesting though.

^ That's a SsangYong Rexton Y400 with MB engines, BTW, and should debut in Paris. No GLS. :)

I knew it!!!! That makes perfect sense. That simply didn't look like a MB at all.

Mercedes announces three new logistics providers for Tuscaloosa
Mercedes-Benz has announced three new local providers to support logistics for its Vance plant.

The new providers are Celadon Logistics, Penske Corporation, and Schnelleke Logistics.

Celedon Logistics, based in Indianapolis, bills itself as "one of North America's largest truckload carriers" with annual revenue totaling more than $800 million.

Penske Corporation is a privately-held transportation services company based Bloomfield Township, Mich., and one of the largest supply chain logistics companies in the world.

Schnelleke Logistics, with North American offices in Chattanooga, began as a furniture transport company and has been active in the U.S. since 2010.

Mercedes' contract with its current logistics services provider, BLG, is set to end Dec. 31. In a statement, Mercedes said the new contracts were awarded after "an extended competitive bidding process."

Mercedes-Benz estimates that 99 percent of the current BLG work force will be retained by the new providers, starting immediately when the new contracts take effect on Jan. 1, 2017. The more than 600 affected employees will receive pay and benefits comparable to what they received at BLG, the company said.

Mercedes also provided the three new providers funds to offer as additional incentive to any eligible BLG employees who are hired. That was to encourage currently BLG employees to apply for positions with the new providers.

"We are very fortunate that these hundreds of skilled and experienced employees will continue to support our logistics needs through their continued employment with these new providers," Jason Hoff, CEO of Mercedes Benz U.S. International, said in a statement. "Celadon, Penske and Schnelleke are already working to ensure a smooth transition for these employees."

Mercedes may back off diesels for U.S.

LOS ANGELES -- With consumer demand dwindling, Mercedes-Benz is questioning whether to continue offering diesel vehicles in the U.S.

Mercedes is working to get certification on a limited number of diesel models it had planned to offer in the U.S., Matthias Luehrs, vice president of sales and product management for Mercedes-Benz Cars, said last week during an interview at the auto show here. More rigorous testing procedures by the EPA in the wake of Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal have delayed diesel certifications for Mercedes and other automakers.

But Mercedes' long-term outlook on diesels in the U.S. is shakier. The company is conducting market research on U.S. diesel demand to help guide its direction, Luehrs said.

"We have to look at that and see whether it makes sense to offer diesels in the future," Luehrs said. "We have not come to a conclusion but we obviously always tend to develop cars and offer vehicles according to customers' demands."

Dropping diesels entirely in the U.S. "is a theoretical option," he said.

Mercedes expects the first batch of results from its market research early next year, Luehrs said. He noted that demand for diesels in North America has been low "and is still lowering" for cars and crossovers.

With regard to the certification efforts under way on diesel models, Mercedes is "confident that in most of the cases" it will succeed in gaining approvals, Luehrs said.

Mercedes says its priority is securing EPA certification for the V-6 diesel in the GLS350d, a diesel version of the brand's large crossover. The company had been seeking certification for at least four diesel models in the U.S: the GLS, plus the GLC and GLE crossovers and the C-class sedan.

A Mercedes spokesman last month said the company no longer plans to offer the diesel C class next year in the U.S. That car had been slated to go on sale in the first quarter of 2016.
