Aaaaaand... wait for it...
I really, really like it upon first impressions. Go figure - there's no accounting for taste.
One thing I have to express is that I admire Mercedes Benz for creating a design so different from that of the X6 despite the identical concept - a sport-utility "coupe" crossover. Mercedes Benz has eschewed the ultra-wedge design of its competitor yet still managed to impart a sense of sportiness and elegance not usually the preserve of normal SUVs. Oh, and that tiny front overhang is simply sublime.
Do I still stand by my assertion that the world doesn't need crossover utility coupes which are less practical and more expensive than their donor SUV siblings? For sure - but then again, I'm swimming against the current.
For what it is, the new GLE Coupe has all the makings of a complete and successfully resolved entrant into the segment. Pity then that the interior has some dated elements which temper the outright surprise-and-delight factor. To my mind its competitor has the more cohesively realised interior and this may be a telling factor in the showroom shoot-out.
Can't wait for the GLE Coupe vs X6 poll in internal combustion.
