GL-Class (X166) [Official] Mercedes-Benz GL-Class (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz X166 is the second generation GL-Class range of full-size luxury crossover SUV. The facelifted version was renamed to GLS. Production: June 2012 – April 2019. Model years: 2013–2019
Such a shame the capacity isn't available. Mercedes sales would recieve a considerable boost.

The dealers here have few ML's on the showroom floor and I'm told there is a 4-6 month wait on ordered vehicles. The A-class waiting list is building quickly too. We expect the first GL's here in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait to see this beast.

Thanks to fab who posted the GL changes for model year 2014. :)

SPLITVIEW may require a different COMAND. :)

SPLITVIEW – one screen, two programmes

A further highlight of the E-Class is the optionally available screen featuring SPLITVIEW technology, which allows the driver and front passenger to view two different sets of content at the same time. While the driver is checking the navigation instructions, the front passenger can sit back and watch a film on the very same display.

Developed by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, SPLITVIEW technology makes use of a backlit active matrix colour display (TFT-LCD). This shows two different images simultaneously by placing pixels adjacent to each other. A filter masking the display divides this mixed image in such a way that depending on the seating position, only the pixels making up one or the other image can be seen. As a result, the driver and front passenger can view different programmes on the same screen at the same time.

So as not to distract the driver, a remote control is available for the front passenger. In addition, he can enjoy his personal entertainment programme using headphones. Of course, the front passenger need not dispense with making use of telephone or navigation features, since he is also able to use the display to access all of the information from the COMAND Online control and display system.

SPLITVIEW premiered on the 2010 S-Class.

Regardless of the engine under the bonnet, however, the Mercedes-Benz GL indulges occupants, cossets them with a smooth ride, and keeps its driver entertained thanks to a balanced chassis and sweet steering. It is an excellent small apartment-sized SUV.

Why the hell not? Do it. China and the Middle East will buy every one of them.

Thing is with the G, S, S Coupe, SL and possibly the GL all sharing a V12, isn't that enough volume to justify developing a new one? The current V12 is the oldest engine of any of the German luxury brands I think. I mean it is still the SOHC, 3-valve layout/design lol.

A longer version would sell well in the US.
The reality is Mercedes needs to manufacture this model in a different market. US supply has suffered even though the GL is built here.

Tenn, maybe you can explain to us why Mercedes won't increase allocation for the U.S. market if they know they can sell more here? I don't get that???

M

It's simple. The GL is ONLY built in the US. They can retail the GL in other markets and make a lot more per unit. The plant is at capacity I'm sure. The bottom line is the bottom line. They can make more in other markets. The only way to increase US allocation is to cut to other markets.
We had a lot of US dealers, mainly Florida, who were selling to exporters. Literally making big $$ over list. Mercedes response (and can't blame them) was to stop allocating to US dealers if they were going to ship overseas anyway. For dealerships who played by the rules (like us) we get the short end of the stick.
