EQS (V297) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. Production: May 2021- Model years: 2022–

"What on earth could I have done to deserve all of this ridicule ??"

“EQS will be the world’s best production car ever in terms of aerodynamics,” with a drag coefficient of 0.20 significantly better than even the sleekest of today’s supercars, he explained.

So it's a case of form follows function. Just be a man and admit it Robert, instead of inventing all kinds of BS PR language. "Single bow line" is the new "sensual purity"?

I mean, the Cd is mighty impressive. But the resulting form is just tragic.

Well, that proves Lesnik can design very good looking cars. Brings to mind, that EQS probably is indeed mainly form follows function. There were days this principle led to beautiful design: Bauhaus.

Robert is a top designer.
I met with him many times.
He is also honorary member of our Mercedes Club Slovenia.

The cab-forward design features a short nose, the angled, one-piece aluminum clamshell hood rising aggressively to flow into a steeply raked windshield. Instead of a traditional, two- or three-box layout, the look is like that of a single bow line, explained Robert Lesnik, who led the exterior design effort.

Entirely new design direction......

Which Citröen has been doing for two generations of C4 Picasso, already .

Not personal, btw. You're a true gentleman Wolfgang.
It's just I can't stand all the marketing BS coming from Mercedes/BMW these days, and the "I'm bigger than life" attitude of some designers, like Wagoner.

My last post on this thread, as I don't want to beat an already beaten horse, but the EQS is just tragic. Not only because the results looks plainly bad, but it does look immensely generic.
All in all, is a Honda Civic with a star, but when you analyze it by parts: Civic or Dodge Dart front, late 2000s (x07 series) Peugeot proportions and hood height, Prius greenhouse, Ford/Peugeot 208/Kia stoplights, and the worse hood shutline ever released on car.
Nothing, absolutely nothing on the car says Mercedes. Nothing that makes other manufactures lust after, and copy. The result of years of ever blob-ing cars and detailing with fish bumpers, amorphous headlights shape, "look at me" headlight detailing.

It wasn't Lesnik who designed the W222. The original design proposal of the S-Class was created by South Korean designer Il-Hun Yoon who was inspired by Mercedes concept cars such as the F700.

The design was then finalised under Lesnik's supervision.

Thank you Gianclaudio. :)

The C4 Picasso may better be compared to the R-Class? Also regarding their similar aerodynamic drags of 0.30 and 0.31 or so.
The EQS may be an improved CLS? Also seen by the drag: 0.20 compared to 0.26 for the current CLS. Not sure if it can extend its tail like the Concept IAA?

An empty battery leaves EQS owner summoning a roadside assistance flatbed.

Better just call a Hyundai Ionic 5 to charge it back up. Can the EQS do that too, or is that too high tech?

^ EQS bidirectional charging was mentioned on GCF already, I believe. May first become available in Japan. Not sure if it allows vehicle to vehicle charging at first, though. :)

The W/V222 was Lešnik first “whole”project at Daimler. It’s his baby. But the process of an Design is made from a whole design team. One is in charge only for mirrors, one other only for lights etc.

here a video where he told us in Ljubljana all the details:

...and yet another highly unflattering photo image of the EQS. It looks like some sort of futuristic albeit tacky city bus.

"Next stop-Seaworld".

I find it regrettable that M-B decision-makers refrained from picking up design cues featured on the Concept IAA. I'm quite sure that the proportions of its' architecture would have been far more favourably received than those of the EQS.

Yes this would have been stunning. Enlarged for more passenger space of course, but not changing the shape.

Agreed. The Concept IAA designer Bastian Baudy gave some hints the other day. :)

Informative. And yet...

I cannot help but think that M-B powers-that-be squandered a massive opportunity by straying sooooo far from the EQS concept which, save the somewhat over-snubbed nose, is quite near to immaculate in terms of exterior design.

^ Yes. The EQS concept may have been designed after the production car was finished, perhaps as appetizer so to speak? :)

Oh, now I get it. A fresh cavier appetizer served before the main dish consisting of a pre-prepared boiled whale blubber club sandwich.

By the way, those EQS concept illustrations are simply beautiful.
