The terrible shut line and camo indicates that this was a prototype of sorts.

There is no way Tesla got this without MB's cooperation

Actually also the design of the w140 polarized and was not everybodys thing.
The technical advancement was not seen as a problem.
I can still remember 1992 when we bought a 500 SEL - that was quite a cool car.

Nobody at that time thought it was an ugly design, not that I recall. Almost everybody thought it was too big, it’s sheer size caused discussion, polarization if you wish.
The engineering, the technical prowess, though admired by many, caused the W140 to be very heavy. If you ordered all the extra‘s and technical gadgets, the maximum weight was nearly reached. Transporting 4 adults lead to over weight.

I read a article that companies share cars in this way apparently MB and Tesla have a good relation not sure how true this is ?

Could it be that Daimler want Tesla to make an assesment of their car? Something similar to what Diess did, taking Musk for a ride in the ID3.
