You have all the freedom in the world, new model, new platform, new drive tech, no need for a big grill, no big radiators... and what do you come up with --- this fugly face with a fake grill and 2 fake vents! Shame.

"maybe it IS time to embrace the future of automobiles"
Come on Jimmy, don't blame the the future - the future has nothing to do with the design. It is just lack of imagination with the past stuck on it.

This shape is not made for premium cars ffs!

then again it looks abit better in the autogeful video.. but still it’s irking me .. I want to punch someone. It’s not helping that I’m fasting.. haha I need to get away from the screen.

After seeing this the future does not look good, we had avoided the disaster announced in the 80 'of the bubbles with wheels that was imminent for the following years (ICE aerodynamics for efficiency) but here 40 years later, Mercedes decided it was a good idea to start this trend

Funny, I think the grilles actually add some aggression and definition to the front end. It draws some brand familiarity and adds some definition to a car that is a complete bubble as it is. This could've been avoided by making a very handsome squared off front end a la Lucid Air, of course.

If Chinese customers prefer this over the S class, the S class is dead.
Otherwise impresive tech. I predict 1 EQS sale per 2 S class sales in 2020, or app 35 000 units per year.

Ford Sierra and Renault Espace spring to mind. Speaking of 80's, I was watching a compilation of Mercedes in Miami Vice and the W126 featured in the show were incredibly stylish.

Agreed. The front is embarrassingly busy. However the rear is unexpectedly delightful.

Overall, I don't hate the exterior but don't love it.

whyyyyyy did it have to look like a f#cking egg.. Jesus Christ

im so pissed off , why do all EVs have to look retarded ? ( besides the taycan ).

such a lost opportunity it’s stunning tech amazing interior .. and then this design.

but ill still wait until I see it in real life the size of it could make it look alright.

i think the 2 tone and amg package helps it. The normal one is just so damn tragic and bland.

i get it that it has amazing aerodynamic properties but I wish they sacrificed range to make it look pretty.

the most tragic thing is that this shape is probably what they will go for going forward with the EQ brand.

I f#cking hate hatchbacks ( besides Panamera ).. it’s the worst shape of
Car, that and those damn coupe suvs like the x6 and gl coupes.

what a disappointment wow.

I feel you. I think they purposely designed it to look futuristic (egg-like) and different to the traditional three-box S-Class to give customers the choice, but Mercedes would most likely want you to buy both.

I think it’s looks is very sensitive on colour and angle at which the car is viewed. From certain angles it just looks weird. But it has a very grand sweeping roofline and proportions. It’s one of those cars that will take time to grow you, and I think it will.

Not even close! The people who said it was a polarizing design and may take time getting use to, I suggest you should check again between the two. The upper one definitely is polarizing, no doubt on that. The bottom one...are we being real? Of course there are other aspects of the car (tech and interior), but from a design standpoint...eww!

"tech" and "build quality" aside, the car LOOKS cheap, like really cheap generic from 3D representation of the future where they needed a "car".

and with that weight, it comes factory armored against assault rifles?

Yeah S 580E is where it is. 100km electric range is enough.

In design there are cars that inspire
Others that don't inspire
This one disappoints

That has to be one of the worst concept to reality transformation in the history of cars!

But will make a great expectation vs reality meme!
