EQS (V297) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. Production: May 2021- Model years: 2022–
Why do Automakers think EVs should look like science projects? Toyota too got burned reaching too far and has had to reign it in on the design front.

Put two pillows on the back and call it a facelif, expected results.

Despite the significant increase in range, Mercedes doesn’t consider this a full mid-life facelift: instead, the platform’s chief project manager Holger Enzmann described the changes as “an upgrade before the update”.

Mercedes-Benz extends it’s technical lead over the i7
Mercedes-Benz has updated it’s EQS. With this update it’s extending it’s already existing technical lead over the i7.
- Due to it’s EV dedicated platform it has practically the same wheelbase, but is 17 cm shorter;
- In that same wheelbase Mercedes manages to get a 118 kWh battery vs 101,5 kWh for the i7;
- Mercedes has a bigger boot space (+120 liters) and has a much shorter turning cycle;
- WLTP range of the EQS is 211 km more;
- EQS charges 10%-80% in 31 minutes (i7 34 minutes) which results in a WLTP distance of 575 km (i7 428 km);
- MBUX hyperscreen comes as standard and yet EQS is more than € 6.000 cheaper than the i7 edrive 50;
- EQS weighs 80 kg less than i7.

Please take a look at the comparison table in the link.

If the design of the EQS had been acceptable to everyone, there would be a different perspective today. The technology is more advanced than the BMW i7. Perhaps it is an advantage that it is not a boring design as some BMW fans say.

It does seem that if the design and interior quality were correct it would have been a hit. It seems to be an efficient EV but I’ll let the EV fanatics speak on that. With Mercedes the next generation will be the one that gets its right. If there is one.

No EV expert or fan either, but I thought it was interesting to read, that some hardcore facts, compared to i7, are clearly in favour of EQS.

The i7 isn’t exactly a looker and having sat in both, I felt that whilst the materials in the i7 are better in places, the EQS still felt luxurious and for me has a more cohesive and stylish look and feel.

I really didn't like the ”crystal“ stuff in the i7 felt gimmicky and will age badly I think.

EQS needs tweaks, make the grab arms on the door pockets more robust, ditch the high gloss black around the seat controls and opening handle, ditch those bloody touch buttons on the steering and put a leather or leather look cover on the steering wheel hub.

No next gen EQS, but electric S-class yes. This was always the plan. The ICE S-class getting a second refresh and living longer is what is new.

Next Gen S will be only electric ? If so what happens to countries like UAE , South Africa ? And others

Next S will probably be one car but various options like the 7/i7.

The W223 is getting a facelift in 2026 and 2029. The MB.EA-L platform is not engineered for ICE. They’ll be sold alongside each other, much like electric C-class and the regular W206 C-class.

Yes. The S65 and CL65 used to be utter depreciation monsters and lost 50% of their value in the first 1 year.
True , but keep in mind that 2 generations of S65 and CL65 came right around 2 huge , bad times : Dot Com Bubble and the 2007 financial crisis....

W220 65AMG came right when the Dot Com bubble exploded
W221 65AMG came right when the world financial crisis came

Not exactly great times for huge thirsty and hungry engines...

EQS is a good EV but too expensive when new. My neighbor has one and really likes it but compared to my Taycan it drives like a boat.

I think this is the only issue with this car.

Ok , it looks odd. But beauty is subjective. Many find the 7 cool , and it sells like old milk.

But that price....

The base EQS is more than € 6.000 cheaper than an i7 50. I think price is an issue with the vast majority of EV. To me, most upper market EV don‘t justify the price.
