Might have something to do with NVH insulation of the drivetrain, ThroughandThrough? :)

I remember that most diesel pipes were pointed downwards about 15-20 years ago. I was told then that it had to do with the exhaust being hotter than on the petrol engines, and that the pipes were turned downward to protect paint, plastic and such.

Same happened here in Norway. On the big reveal day, a lot of taxi drivers came to see and order the car. They will probably get them in June...

I saw the W205 C class in 2014. The only thing I didn't like about it was the front.
I saw the W213 E class in 2016. The only thing I didn't like about it was the front.
MB made the same mistake again. They offer three combinations:
- ugly bumper + ugly grille (basic / avantgarde)
- ugly bumper + beautiful grille (exclusive)
- beautiful bumper + ugly grille (amg)
Why don't they offer the best one: beautiful bumper + beautiful grille?

I wonder how much would it cost to have AMG line bumper cut to fit the classic grille and then have the classic grille installed... (+software update - different position of the camera)

This is how our 2012 W212 PFL was.

AMG Sport kit with traditional grille and hood ornament.

Man, it turned a lot of heads.

Don't hate. I just want to know how to tell the difference between the front of the fl212 and the 213.

I think the exhaust pointed downwards is so the soot (diesel black dust) blows down into the ground instead of outwards into the vision of motorists driving behind and also will not collect on the back bumper and rear lights. This was probably more prominent in the 1970's/1980's when diesels of that time didn't have any catalytic converters or diesel particulate filters so would blow out alot of soot from their exhausts. I remember Mercedes introduced this downward turned exhaust tip on the W123 models in the 1970's.

Soot was definetly a big factor. Anyone who remember the diesels of the early 80's?
