E-Class (W213) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
why the hell did they put that ipad in the back? this is the bad influence of BMW, its like a really shitty friend giving you bad ideas:D

Where did it fall short of expectations?
It didn't feel luxurious enough. I walked away with the impression that all the new technology - which is very exciting by the way - was meant to distract us from the fact that the inside isn't as wow as i would expect from an E class. There's only so long that the new dash and digital instruments etc will provide a thrill. In the longer run its got to be the feeling of having a really top end experience when you sink into the seats or when you pull away from the kerb. Wasn't feeling it I'm afraid

Respect your opinion but I don't understand how more luxurious the E can be. The previous E wasn't that luxurious ether and there is no way E can match the luxury of an S class. The new E is luxurious enough for its class and all the journalists were deeply wowed by the interior fit and finish and quality.

I guess that's really it - after all the press noise about the interiors , I went in expecting a real step up from previous E-Class. I did actually go in "locked and ready to buy" as my current E Class is ready for a change, even willing to buy a diesel (!) but couldn't pull the trigger. I'm going to let this sink in before I make any decisions

That's what I thought when I first seen it, but if my memory serves me right, they all use the same supplier for their respective systems. So I think we might see the iPad in the back come S-Class' facelift time.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe BMW uses a Samsung Android tablet. These pictures seem to indicate MB is using it's own proprietary hardware/software solution here.

IMO, the BMW solution makes more sense since Android is open source and the possibilities of what you can make the tablet do are endless.

So what other cars in it's class are you considering since the E-class is considered at the top of it's class for interior luxury. It's interesting to hear opinions from someone actually in the market for the car.

I have tried Audi A6, BMW 5-series and Lexus GS. I have ordered an MB E220d, as the competitors are clearly behind the E-class as a whole package. Especially the interior in the MB feels much more luxurious than the competitors. In particular the BMW felt dated compared to the competition.

Auto Motor und Sport claims the new rear center armrest may be offered in Europe as well? :)

Centre armrest with lots of features

All rear seat variants have a folding centre armrest in common. Their comfort attributes include:
  • An illuminated stowage compartment
  • A USB port
  • An integral touchscreen (optional extra)
  • Wireless charging of the mobile phone (optional extra)
  • Heated pad (optional extra)
  • As an extended centre console a cup holder with temperature control on request
In addition to this the rear compartment meets requirements for use as a workspace and relaxation area. For instance, the occupants can, on request, control certain car and COMAND functions from the rear – either via a touchscreen display permanently integrated into the centre armrest or with a corresponding app via tablet or smartphone.

it's very impressive ....BMW, AUDI, and JAGUAR, have a lot of catching up to do.

Ahh, Josef Albers, nice avatar Wolfgang!

^ Offers heated armrests, though? :)

The long-wheelbase E-class pays special attention to the rear passengers beyond offering more space. All versions get a central armrest with lighted storage and a USB port. Elbows and hands can be further delighted with optional extras such as a heated armrest surface, wireless device charging capability, a touchscreen.... http://blog.caranddriver.com/e-longated-new-mercedes-benz-e-class-gets-lwb-version-for-china/

I have a question for you @Wolfgang, the cars being assembled in China, which suppliers do they use for the interior trim, eg wood, leather ?

Congratulations. Any more info on your order? Trim level and accessories?
