E-Class (W213/C238/A238) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. Body styles: sedan/saloon (W213), wagon/estate (S213), long wheelbase (V213), coupé (C238), cabriolet (A238). Production: 2016–2023. Predecessor: W212 E-Class. Successor: W214 E-Class, C236/A236 CLE.
Winner for sure. Was there anything about an U.S. market E400?

M

Didn't see anything yet. The E 400 they tested in California was a European model apparently. :)

As is typical, the new E-class will offer a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines internationally, but the choices will be more limited in the United States. Expect an E300, an E450 AMG SPORT, and the monster Mercedes-AMG E63 S with about 600 horsepower. Mercedes plans to once again offer a diesel version, as well, and a plug-in hybrid could be added down the road. Eventually, there will be hybrids with an integrated starter-generator based on a 48-volt electrical architecture.

Quality has reached new heights with the new E-Class. The rear seat is now much more roomy and comfortable for tall individuals. The new color might be the most metallic I've seen on black paint.

The new Comand is the best iteration of automotive infotainment I've used in any vehicle, in terms of visual quality and the convenience of the steering wheel scrollers. MB still loves to overdo sub-menus, but that's a minor criticism.

Talking about quality, has anybody here already sat inside and felt the materials and assembly. A TV show in France (Turbo on M6) complained a little about that (thin plastics that move and create some gaps for instance) ?

The center console looks amazing without the black shiny trim.

Hopefully this will soon be available on the other E class models too. And with more options like wood too.

These two pics look amazing. Huge win here for MB. After the terrible W212, this W213 just makes things right.

Agree about the 212 ..a friend just asked for advice about buying a used 2014 e350 and I couldn't help but steer him towards a 16/17 c300. Despite some of the initial quality reports it represents the " new" mb and just feel it's a better car overall. As for the 213 I'll be at nyias today. If I can get clean shots will add some to the site . Happy to see mb building to quality and certain other ideals rather than more to a price (220/203 etc)

Mercedes-AMG just introduced its new E43 at this week’s New York Auto Show, but there’s a faster, more powerful version of the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class being worked on by the Affalterbach tuner’s engineers.

We’re talking about the new E63, which has just been spotted in its Wagon bodystyle for the first time. It’s clear this is the AMG model because of its aggressive front bumper and uprated wheels, tires and brakes. Elements at the rear are only temporary units.

Other than being a longroof, the new E63 Wagon should be much the same as its sedan counterpart, which we’ve been spying for over a year.

Power is expected to come from Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 and be sent to all four wheels via a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. Speaking in New York, the boss of AMG, Tobias Moers, hinted that a drift mode is being developed for the car. This is expected to significantly boost the car's handling ability.

Moers also let slip that the new E63 will feature a 9-speed automatic, though it isn't clear if this is a regular auto or an AMG-style SpeedShift MCT which uses a wet start-up clutch instead of a conventional torque converter.

Besides the transmission, it's also not clear what power rating the new E63 will have. We should expect at least 550 horsepower in the standard model and close to 600 horses for the E63 S.

The regular wagon version of the latest E-Class is due out towards the end of the year, possibly at September’s Paris Auto Show. It’s likely we’ll see the AMG model around then.

Stay tuned for updates as development continues.

Mercedes-AMG will launch the new E63, which Moers said will debut a new “drift mode” designed to make it easier and safer to engage in a little sideways action when hitting the track.
PS: I am looking forward to the E63, as it will reveal the amount of power amg will put in the higher series 63amg

For Gods sake, I hope Mercedes won't do that! Let BMW and Audi fight about the rednecks. Mercedes should be for people with style and class.

Sat in that Euro spec E220d and the door handle was falling apart. Found the dash to be rock hard. It looks like soft leather, but it's not.
Smudges everywhere indeed on that center console.

There's a white carbon fiber console in the C43 coupe. It will look really nice with that trim on the dash.

-Maybach to add large SUV to its ranks, E-Class version ruled out

It appears an even-money bet that the ultra-luxury brand Mercedes-Maybach will add an SUV to its ranks in the future, but there won’t be an E-Class Maybach variant despite persistent rumours.

The only Mercedes-Maybach models currently on sale are the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and the even lengthier Pullman version, but with SUVs proving lucrative, the range is almost certain to expand to include a high-riding, long-wheelbase, ultra-luxury vehicle of that type.

Whether it’s based on the just-updated Mercedes-Benz GLS flagship SUV or will be held off until the next-generation version of that vehicle arrives – possibly around 2019 – remains unclear.

But what is clear, according to Ola Källenius, member of the board of management of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars marketing and sales, is that the SUV model “needs to be the highest exclusivity corner”.

“I think there’s scope for growth for the Maybachbrand, but there’s a significant difference compared to the way we’re doing AMG, where you can really do top to bottom. So an A45 is kind of the coolest hatch you can buy, and of course an S63 – if you’re looking for performance in the luxury segment, that’s what you get,” he said.

“That does not apply for Maybach,” Källenius explained.

“Maybach needs to be the highest exclusivity corner of the Mercedes-Benz family. So only at the very top end would I see potential other derivatives for Maybach, and not going downwards,” he said.

There had been rumours of an E-Class Maybach model (pictured below in prototype guise), but Källenius cleared the slate in that regard.

“An E-Class Maybach, for instance, is not something that we have on the cards – it will, if and when we do more, will stay at the very top end of the range,” he said.

Maybe that stretched E-Class is just that – a long-wheelbase E-Class for some markets. In China, it’s a common business practice for car companies to lengthen their models to make for more luxurious accommodation for those in the rear.

That could happen for the first ever Maybach SUV, and Källenius made it clear that with the renaming of the GL model to be the GLS in line with its S-Class flagship equivalent, that it is “possible” that a high-end, ultra-luxury SUV to compete with the likes of the just-released Bentley Bentayga and the ultra luxury Range Rover Autobiography will eventuate.

“GLS is the S-Class of the SUVs, so I wouldn’t rule that out,” he said. “GLS, based upon the GLS could be a candidate – not the decision made at this time – but that could be a candidate.”

Källenius said the repositioning of the Maybach brand to become a more integrated part of the Mercedes family – with lower prices and the Mercedes brand attached – has paid dividends.

“What’s interesting is that this restart of the Maybach story with a slightly different strategy, has had a phenomenal start. We sell more Mercedes-Maybach per month in China than we sold in our best year with the old Maybach per year.

“It’s a different strategy, it’s a different price point – but still, at the very top of the portfolio, so it’s not like it’s inexpensive. You get a lot of car but you pay a bit more,” he said.

Great! There's no need for an E Maybach. And they should just wait for the next generation of the GLS before they add a Maybach variant.

^ Or apply it to the more exclusive G, and leave the GLS alone. The GLS is basically just a longer version of the GLE/ML. :)

Ola-Kaellenius-Portraet-fotoshowBigImage-9f604ee0-831046.webp

Hoping that changes with the next generation and the GLS becomes truly worthy of its name and a formidable platform for a Maybach. As desirable as the G is it will now never be competitive with the likes of the Bentayga etc in terms of ride, refinement and technology.

Mercedes-Benz even brought the E 220 d with the new diesel to New York. Some previous reports indicated it might not be offered in the USA until about 2018, though. :)

Mercedes-Benz Tests NY Waters With Diesel-Powered 2017 E-Class

During this year's New York International Auto Show, the new Mercedes-Benz E 220d made a surprise appearance alongside the brand's other novelties.

While the AMG-powered E43 was undoubtedly the main attraction as far as four door Benz cars were concerned, the presence of the diesel-powered E 220d shouldn't go by unnoticed.

The reason why the E 220d is making the rounds is mainly because of its newly developed 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-pot engine, producing 192 HP (195 PS) to go with a peak torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).

The E 220d is also capable of returning a combined fuel consumption figure of 60.3 mpg US (3.9l/100km), and sprinting to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.3 seconds, which is impressive regardless of what continent you're on. Of course, we don't know if this particular engine could be a hit in the US, but the car on display in NY certainly didn't offend anybody.

Thanks to the Designo Selenite Grey Magno paint job and the AMG-Line exterior, this E 220 d is by no means a modest-looking car - which is good considering how sensitive of a topic "diesel power" has become in the US lately after the VW Group's scandal.

They should sell the E 350d in the U.S because Americans will sneer at an E-class with less than 200 hp.

By the way it's nice that Mercedes returned to its old straight to the point diesel naming, because "CDI Bluetec" is too much of a mouthful and sort of pretentious.

MB probably drop the "Blue" part in the tec to distance itself from VW's BlueMotion diesel mess.
