E-Class (W213/C238/A238) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.
I'm with you on this @PINHEAD. Magnificent car inside-outside, but that black plastic console is terrible and cheap, not fitting the E-Klasse. Even if MB will call it "piano black laque" it'll be cheap shiny plastic. I don't get it, I really don't. Or does MB think this is necessary to keep a certain distance to the S-Klasse? Which argument would be invalid, because the C-Klasse can be ordered with a wooden console. I'm confused. (but perhaps I won't be after tonights episode of ..... ;)).

The car looks superb despite the sheer similarity with the C and S, which some might say it makes the car look "uncreative". Fair enough. But it's well proportioned and the similarity with the C and S probably reduces the costs of designing and building the car.

I just hope this car doesn't turn out to be a reliability disaster.

What would happen if it had wood?, the answer is - it would be simply overload of too much luxury, even threatening the S-Class. So in the end, I think this is the perfect solution, and besides it provides a nice 'controlled' balance of contemporariness and luxury befitting this segment.

No intention to take this off-topic as this discussion of the piano-black plastic is topical in the context of the conversation. Mercedes introduced this black-lacquer trim in the W205 and those marketing numpties at BMW followed suit with the F30 LCI in a knee-jerk reaction. I hate the damn stuff. I have it in my car and it's so shite I want to soil my under-rods. You can't touch it without leaving a greasy print or smear. It attracts dust so that when you try and wipe the smudges off you end up creating hairline scratches in the shitty stuff.

It might look all fancy and grand but I think it is a fake portrayal of a premium finish. Yuck.

It wouldn't look so cheap to begin with. Furthermore, you wouldn't have those terrible fingerprints on it and a surface that doesn't show every single scratch down to the size of a µ.
If not in wood, MB could have thought of high quality matt black plastic. The same material as seen in the S-Klasse around the comand controller. To me the more honest and down to earth use of plastic.

Has there been any information about the size of the fuel tank? Will there still be the possibility of upgrading to 80 ltrs? Herr @Wolfgang perhaps?

Haven't seen it yet. May be listed in the price list expected on January 18. :)

Some further MB Passion impresssions from NAIAS 2016. :)

This apparently shows both cupholders and phone box? MB Passion says this is the standard version.

No Matthias there's no cheating device to make the steering adjustment silent because it's electric.

You should ask Hyundai what kind of cheating device they used to make i30's steering adjustment silent and put it in the Golf.

The W211 was slammed in the US for it's small cupholders. The Germans then came up with this ridiculous complex and problematic pop out solution. Times have moved on and now it's absolutely mandatory for a vehicle to have cupholders in the console and bottle holders in the doors.

Is this really a thing? I have never used a cupholder in anything other than commercial vehicles.

Yes it actually is. Which new vehicle have you recently come across without cupholders and drink holders?

It seems my rant was premature as @Wolfgang has posted a photo showing the phone box and cupholders installed concurrently.

@martinbo, I couldn't agree with you more about the shiny black trim on the LCI 3-er. My car has it too and I HATE the fact it shows dust and marks so easily. And then I ended up scratching it wiping it down with a microfibre cloth! What the hell am I supposed to use to clean it?

EXACT same thing happened to me to a tee. Screw those dumb-ass, follow-the-herd numpties. Personally, I feel there is nothing you can use to clean the surface without scratching it. That's just the way it is. I bet you that lacquer even comes from the same supplier.

MB probably means 12.3 inch screen in Full HD resolution?

I hope they don't, because they are far from full HD. You know full HD is 1920x1080.

I wonder how comfortable is the new design seats, seems like the shoulder area is slightly narrow. But the design is definately beautiful.

Haha, you're asking wether an MB seat will be comfortable? Little hint: OF COURSE!!!!
These are questions that don't need an answer really.

Oh, I'm sure most of the modern cars I have used, from Ferrari to Hyundai via Mercedes, have them but I never ever use them. You see, you can't eat or drink in my cars.

Ok, eating I sort of understand...but a can of Coke is not ok either??

You.....monster!!!

HD is old. It's either 4K or 8K these days ;)

Yeah, on your 50".
Even full HD makes no sense in a car, where the screen is tiny and your eyes will never be up close.

So MB's solution in the E class is great, because the resolution they used and the size of the screen in relation to the distance from your eyes will make it look 'HD'.
