The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.
Yep MBUSA has already done that. They did it with the current C -Class too. Specified the ugliest wheels and tractor ride height and then wondered why no one bought it. It's all about what sells, not offering anything classic and unique anymore.

I am glad that Mercedes has kept the classic grill as the ONLY grill on the S-class and not given any sports star grill option like C and E.
 
Mark my words, the next E won’t have a star on the hood anymore. Explanation of Mercedes-Benz : “hardly anyone bought the more classic/luxurious version of the W213, almost everybody went for the AMG/Avant-garde line”.

Like when BMW went for FWD for their 1er, because 70% of the owners were not aware with wheels were driven. BS.

This always tickles me. What you see on the street is not an absolute indication of how a vehicle is selling. The pre-FL had 4 years to sell and fill up the streets, the FL just went on sale in most places at the end of 2020. It's a completely false equivalency.

Well, this is probably the reason why when people say this, they compare similar moments in time. No one expects to see the same amount of cars of a model that has been on sale a few months than of a car that has been around 4 years. We compare how quickly the pre-FL started populating the streets around our area, with how rare is seeing a FL W213 these days.

BS indeed. The biggest BS story in the world of BMW ever.
But @Merc1 is right, BMW and MB don't care anymore at all. They only care about what sells. For BMW is cheap FWD crap cars, for MB it's replacing the entire lineup with crappy little engines.

We'll see how well both brands are doing when this decade approaches its end. I can't remember the last time the upcoming models of both brands looked so bad as it is the case now.

MORE DETAILS ON THE OM 654 M IN THE E 300 D 4MATIC FROM MERCEDES-BENZ

With the electrified OM 654 M, Mercedes-Benz is offering a new engine with a 48-volt electrical system in the E 300 d 4MATIC that has never been seen before. In particular, the starter generation with 15 kW / 20 PS pushes it hard and supports it with 200 Nm extra torque.

For the OM 654 M 4-cylinder diesel engine, the well-known OM 654 has not only been modified by increasing the displacement to 1,993 cm³ by increasing the stroke to 94 mm. The mild hybrid now also has a 48-volt electrical system - in addition to the conventional 12-volt electrical system, which is responsible, among other things, for operating the integrated starter generator and for the air conditioning.

Injection pressure of up to 2,700 bar

A 5th generation common rail direct injection with up to seven injections per work cycle works up to 2,700 bar. The two-stage turbocharger from the supplier BorgWarner has adjustable turbine blades - to regulate the air volume - and thus ensures a particularly fast build-up of torque even at low speeds.

According to the manufacturer BorgWarner, the R2S system of the turbocharger used here is even the first diesel application on the market that is equipped with a cast steel turbine housing for maximum heat resistance. The system uses a combination of a turbocharger for the high pressure stage and a wastegate turbocharger for the low stage. The development includes a water-cooled electrical actuator, bearing system and compressor housing.

The use of two SCR catalytic converters with respective AdBlue® injection and an additional NOx storage catalytic converter significantly reduces the emission of NOx gases. Multi-way exhaust gas recirculation: Even more exhaust gases are recycled in the combustion process.

The components of exhaust aftertreatment in the OM 654 M:
  • a close-coupled NOX storage catalytic converter to reduce nitrogen oxides
  • a DPF (diesel particulate filter with a special coating to also reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides)
  • an SCR catalytic converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction; with a dosed amount of AdBlue ® injected ) and an additional SCR catalyst in the underbody of the vehicle with a separately dosed amount of AdBlue ® injected
First diesel with integrated starter generation of the 2nd generation

The integrated starter generator of the 2nd generation can control the combustion engine with 15 kW (20 HP) additional power and 200 Nm extra torque. It is placed in the power end of the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission to save space and is therefore optimally integrated with regard to electrical connections and cooling. In addition, the weight of the system was reduced and its robustness increased. The 4-cylinder engine, in combination with an integrated starter generator (ISG) and the 48-volt on-board network (in addition to the 12-volt on-board network), provides four times the power with the same current levels. This means that auxiliary units with high power requirements, such as the refrigerant compressor, can be used. In overrun, a considerable proportion of the kinetic energy is fed back into the battery (recuperation). This can significantly reduce the consumption of the drive.

A f'ing 4 pot diesel! Horrible!!!!! All around! Tractor stuff in a luxury car, in 2021. LOL! What sane person on the face of this planet is going to buy a 4 cylinder diesel in 2021? I mean that seriously!
