always say "urgh, a masterpiece is here" when seeing merc w212
my eyes like it:t-crazy2:

Great read James.:usa7uh:

I thought the E's engine is supercharged not turbo-ed,not sure.:t-hands:

Great read from a MB POV yeah. Because if the 5er feels detached from the road, Lord knows what the E feels like...

"I thought I would never say this, but the E’s suspension is actually harsher than the one in the BMW, but the plus is that it makes the car feel quite agile. The chassis is tight and stiff, and cornering is a joy in the E."

It's mentioned in the review that the E is fitted with a (harsher) sports-oriented suspension whereas the 5er isn't. Both suspensions are appriciated in their own regard and the review's quite complimentary to both cars, or car manufacturers if you prefer.

MB isn't making any supercharged engines any more for the E. Neither for any other model since the introduction of the new-gen 4-pot engines.

Weird that a BMW can feel more supple but less engaging to drive than an E-Class... Where is the world heading to?:D

you can have either avantgarde or elegance suspension without any payment, while bmw only offers it as a separate option

My friends new E

Worked a deal for my German friend on a new 2010 E350. She has always wanted one and drove all of my latest toys, including the SL550 at over a 100mph! We drove to Denver in her 2002 Acura and drove home in her new Artic White/Sierra Beige Leather E350 with P2 and some other goodies.

The trip was 1600 miles round trip and shot #4 was at a Rest Stop in Utah, just at sunrise. The last 2 shots were taken when she dropped me off at my place and on her way home.

Here are a few shots:

Very cool! That interior combo, with the Luxury designation and all, looks very comfy and classy. I'm sure the ride back was nice!

I'm seeing some more Luxury versions on the roads, which makes me happy, as it keeps a nicer balance between Sports and Luxury E's.

Yeah... when I saw that interior I kind of wished I had gone that direction...had it in my S550 and loved it but got converted to Black...:D

I can only own a car with Black interior, don't get me wrong. Lighter colors wear off FAST (I literally feel sick in a car with too much beige, after a while).

I'm really happy with the Black/Almond in my car, the important stuff (dash, floor, wheel, trim) is black, while the "luxurious" elements (seats, leather/M-B Tex areas, etc.) are Almond (not beige, which is good, more cream, but close enough to get that richness). I'm absolutely in love with the combo.

My W211 had the all black, with white headliner, and that was also VERY classy, I love that combo. All black with black headliner, is just to monotone, I find it makes the W212's interior look a full class down.

I agree... my white (or very light Ash) headliner is a nice contrast to the Black and Walnut.

Nice. Oh, and that's another thing, I need to have Walnut! The black ash wood looks cold and not "wood-y" enough to me personally.

Mercedes manager Sasha Simon explains why diesel hybrids may be confined to Europe:

Fuel Sipping Diesel Hybrids to Debut in Europe

High fuel prices make the cars cost-effective in Europe.

By Kevin Bullis | technologyreview.com

Next year, European automakers Peugeot and Mercedes-Benz will introduce the first diesel hybrid cars, which will get about 60 miles per gallon. Peugeot expects to be the first to market with its 3008Hybrid4 in the spring. The Mercedes E 300 Blue Tec hybrid is due out by the end of 2011.

Diesel engines use about 30 percent less fuel than gasoline engines, but automakers have been reluctant to use them in hybrids because they cost more, often adding $1,500 or more to the price of a car. Adding that cost to the premium for hybrid technology, which can run in the thousands of dollars, could make the cars unattractive to many consumers, says Sasha Simon, a product manager for Mercedes. "You're basically combining two price premiums," he says.

The first diesel hybrids will appear in Europe, where diesels are already popular, because fuel prices are high enough for drivers to quickly recoup the added cost. Fuel prices are too low in the United States for diesel hybrids to make as much sense for drivers there.

Comparison E-class (W212) & S-class photo's

AMS had these on the F01 & F10 yesterday, now the S & E.

IMO the difference in size between the Merc's looks much less than that of the two BMW's.

Great pics, and great articles these guys are doing.

Indeed, the difference in size is quite less noticeable than it is with the Bimmers, which is surprising. I would have liked to see an AMG Pack, or at least Avangarde W212 (with the trapezoidal exhaust tips, and bigger wheels than those 16"ers or whatever they are) as that bare bare bones example looks less decked out comparatively speaking VS the W221's Avantgarde kit, and the 212's dynamic lines and stature really shines with a more aggressive styling pack (and gets all the more subdued with a more "economical" pack).

Two stunning vehicles, regardless. The W221 is an instant legend to me, but I couldn't be happier with choosing to go the W212 route. The design/car just gets more beautiful to me every day.
