E-Class W212 [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212)

The W212 and S212 Mercedes-Benz E-Class series is the fourth generation of the E-Class range of executive cars which was produced by Mercedes-Benz between 2009 and 2016 as the successor to the W211 E-Class. The body styles of the range are either four-door sedan/saloon (W212) or a five-door estate/wagon (S212).
The W211 flows better, has a nicer profile and a much better front end as viewed from the side profile in the posted pictures of the W211 and W212 together. Sadly, I really am liking the W212 less and less as time goes on and especially when viewed with the W211. The W212 just seems to have too much going on and looks busy with its various design elements. Real life viewing will tell, but in photo comparisons, the W211 wins. :)

In real life photos I would have to agree. The W212's design is just too fussy and is very wheel-size and color dependent. Still though I gotta see it in person.

Agreed. Those profile pics says a lot IMO.

Fact is, I know when I see it I'll like it more than in pics initially as it'll be a shock to me (if I don't than the car really is in trouble) to finally see it in person after looking at all these pics, it's like seeing a celebrity and it's simply a new car, so it'll look fresh for a little while (even despite its generic elements that do blend in). But after analyzing the lines in the flesh especially, it's near impossible that I'll appreciate it, I just don't "agree" with the car as a whole or with sooo many of its elements. Then after seeing it after a few months, into years, I'll be so damned sick of it. I'll wager strongly that it will NOT be as big a hit, nor timeless, nor appreciated of a car as the 211 is 7 years into its life-cycle.

^^ It will be interesting to see how the W212 is received and remembered. I think it will be a hit for one reason, better quality than the W211 had upon its launch. The W211 as pretty as it is/was at the start, it was fully of bugs and glitches.

That's true. The 211's image was a huge hit from it's introduction until now, but it's legacy has been dinged due to the early models. This new one will get a legacy like the W204 has already gotten, a solid and reliable M-B that wasn't a quality mess when it first came out. I will bet however, that after it's life-cycle and in the future, it will not be considered much of a classic stylistically, I just personally don't see it.... It doesn't have that pizzaz that the last few did when they debuted, and I see it being as a non ground breaking design which is trying VERY hard (harder than any E in history) to be ground-breaking.

That's my opinion.

I've seen the E-Class in person (New York Auto Show) and I must say that it looks much better in person than in the official photos.

The double fogs are like pins in my eyes. Ugly? No. Unnecessary? Very much so. They look like an after thought put there by a 12 year old who wanted it to have the resemblance of a fighter jet. It's the most unneccessary detail I've ever seen on an Benz. Does not suit a conservative car like the E-Class.

I don't really know...in some pics of the E w/the double fogs it looks sporty and brabus-like, but in other pictures it looks like an aftermarket add-on. I hope that most of the E-Class US Spec models will have the LED fogs because the look amazingly sporty and modern.
