E-Class (W212/C207/A207) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212)

The Mercedes-Benz W212 is the fourth generation of the E-Class range. It is the successor to the W211 E-Class. Body styles: four-door sedan/saloon (W212) and five-door estate/wagon (S212). Coupé and convertible models of the W212 E-Class generation are W204 C-Class based and known as the C207 and A207, replacing the CLK-Class (C209 and A209) coupé and cabriolet. Production: March 2009 – January 2016 (sedan), December 2009 – May 2016 (station wagon).
I could quickly see the new E-Class, and briefly sat in it.

The design is very nice, it's a superb vehicle. Doesn't look heavy as in pics, looks much longer and lower IRL. It looks noticeably lower than the 211, much more like an old-school MB. Rear wing looks nice.

The front is not as "in your face" as in pics, and the lights are way more than just squared as they really unite the side wing and front. They look "deep" and the shape of the outter unit changes completely depending from the angle you're looking at it. It seems to stretch and becomes wider and higher the more you are moving to the side of the car.

The rear is also totally different from the upright sturdy look it has in pics. I will develop it more, since it's the main difference from pics to IRL:

This rear is in fact very 3D-sculpted: it's sporty actually, and I love it. The lights have small "wings" in them who breaks the light reflection and make them appear less "one big piece" while the LEDs inside look very good. The whole rear of the car is noticeably inclined (giving it a dynamic stance) and also has an arrow-shape with a strong divising line in the middle. Nothing like the heavy, slightly Japanese look it has in pics, it's much more complex and detailled IRL.

So overall, the exterior is fantastic. Doesn't look over-designed, as every elements is flowing with the others and everything makes sense. But it's a very refined, very detailled, almost artistic design in a sense.

No great fan of the LEDs DRL though, but you don't really notice them.

The interior now: was a black-alu AVG interior with leather and COMAND. The design is very cool, I love every bit of it. Ergonomics are perfect, seats extremely comfortable. Roomy car, too, although i didn't sit in the back.

The plastic of the upper part of the dash is good-looking: you don't really notice it.
However, on the lower part, it is the same plastic as in the 204 C-Class: quite hard, too shiny. Looks extremely solid, but not refined enough. That is a bit disappointing.
It's however not a real problem, because there isn't much of this plastic, unlike the 204. I awaited a bit more, especially given the general complaints on that area for the C-Class.
The alu of the dash felt a bit too much like plastic (unlike the 204 or 164 for instance who have a real alu-layer), surely because of the design effect on it. Conventional alu, or wood, will cure that.

I also would've wished some fabric or a better plastic on the folding mirrors of the sun-reflectors (I don't know the specific word but you see what I mean). No time to study the interior, however.

The buttons of the A/C are super-nice, but not metal-coated unlike the 221 S-Class. They may feel a slight little bit too light to operate.

No time to study it further, but I loved it. All in all, i love that interior, but the finish/materials are not better than the W211 E-Class.

In fact, it undoubtedly feels more MB-like, more solid, better put together, more "made-to-last", whereas the 211 gave a more refined impression. That, from the materials as from the design. Reassuring, clean, strong.

The 211 was warmer, but also felt hollow on some places and didn't give that "MB-sturdiness" I love so much.

This car is a winner in my eyes. A true Mercedes-Benz, just like the 204.

Some will however miss the delicate, feminine touch of the 211.

Amazing write-up, thanks. :usa7uh:

You're words on its comparisons with the W211 seem to be right on. I always loved the refined, feminine beauty of the W211, and usually prefer that look and feel to all my favourite cars.

The interior has me worried, as I HATE the interior of the W204, the worst unrefined and crude offering M-B has possibly ever done IMO (no offense intended to any fans). The materials in the W212 appear to be the same, it strikes me as cold. The interior of the W211 IMO is a great compliment to its exterior, very curvaceous and of the highest quality. I'm very impressed with the 211's interior and I've driven many cars, I'm curious to see how the 212's will feel when I sit in it, in comparison.

I saw the W212 on the road today in Santa Monica. I was totally blown away - not by the front-end, as I would have suspected - but by the rear. This is one car where photos can't do it justice.

I was totally struck by how aggressive and dynamic the car looked from behind - yet, at the same time, there's a sense of class that comes through it all that is just remarkable.

My hat is off to the E-Class team. They managed to create something that's aggressive and distinctive yet at the same time classy and conservative enough to be durable. My initial impressions were waaaaayyyy off.

Some more W212 sightings. :t-cheers:

Same one as the last page, just parked somewhere else. Must be a silent promotion of this car on the Maximilianstraße.

This guy drove all the way down from Frankfurt!

Another one and possibly one of the nicest views of this car.

I´m convinced the problem of the rear of thid car are the bumpers, the rear bumper makes the car look softer. This doesn´t happen with the AMG pack, or in the E500 with the squared exhaust.

And with the W211 happens the same, the rear of the Avantgarde version looks far better than the Elegance ones.

I love Mercedes-benz, but something about this car has me upset.

Everything from the Drivers door to the front is OUTSTANDING! On the other hand, everything from the rear door on back is ....odd.

Almost like half the car is round and the other half is boxy. Maybe they did that to further distance it from the CLS. It would have almost been better if it kept the overall shape of the current E-class along with the new front, rear lights and interior.

^ Wait before you see it car in person. That will change your opinion, since everything is very well resolved on the outside of this car when seen in 3D...

I seen it a couple of times already at my dealer. I also saw my first E-class in motion today. Front is good but the rear is weak. Dull and bland are the words.
Interior is great though.

Sadly I agree...not feeling the boxy look. I will try to see it in person though....maybe it will change my mind, but I highly doubt it. Boxy is ok on the GLK and G-class...but I've gotten use to the curves in the current model.

I saw my first one at nighttime today, with the Xenons and LEDs in front and back. The backlights look good in the dark with the LEDs. Distictive and pretty. You'll see :usa7uh:

Looks quite fantastic…:

But a car that looks much better on photos then in reality, in my opinion!

I think it's the boxy look that I'm not feeling. When the S-class came out it had so many curves...they C-class did the same...now the e-class goes Boxy...it's a little confusing. Almost like the M-class look verses the GLK-class. It's ok for a truck...bust I have gotten use to seeing the sedans it curves.

I really think this is to further distance it from the CLS like I said before. Still might take me a while to get use to it. If this came out when the W140 was out then I would have loved it, because at that time Benz had that boxy look.

Yeah but the C is boxy too,the front is just an evolution of old Benzes and the new E is just following suit with the new retro evolution thing,i simply love the new design direction.. unmistakably Mercedes-Benz:usa7uh:

The C-class doesn't look boxy to me. Kind of like a baby S-class, which is full of curves.

I just hope they don't box up the next S-class.

The C's front is boxy IMO,as for the next S well it's gonna follow the new design direction so be prepared..:D

Then I might have to go over the BMW section then LOL.

It depends though. The E-class coupe has curves and so will the CLS. Making a Boxy S-class would really be taking a step back.

The Ocean Drive concept was a little more boxy, but it wasn't bad. Also the F700 concept wasn't too boxy either...so it might not be that much of a BOXY future for Mercedes-Benz. Right now the E-class looks like the only boxy sedan so far.

You said urself, the E is the most boxy coz it's a sedan while the E coupe and CLS,ODC ect were all coupe and convertibles so naturally they are more curved.

Following that tradition i believe the next S will be boxy coz it's a sedan..:D
