E-Class (W212/C207/A207) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212) Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz W212 is the fourth generation of the E-Class range. It is the successor to the W211 E-Class. Body styles: four-door sedan/saloon (W212) and five-door estate/wagon (S212). Coupé and convertible models of the W212 E-Class generation are W204 C-Class based and known as the C207 and A207, replacing the CLK-Class (C209 and A209) coupé and cabriolet. Production: March 2009 – January 2016 (sedan), December 2009 – May 2016 (station wagon).
Goes much further back and according to Elon Musk started in late 2007. Remember Daimler introduced the smart electric drive in February 2006 in Geneva. That was the first generation, using Zytek technology, now a division of Continental,
and the Zebra battery, originally developed by Daimler but sold off. About 100 units were trialed in London. Tesla got involved with generation 2 of the smart electric drive, and since they pleased Daimler, the initial order was raised from 1000 units several times to around 2100. The third generation of the smart fortwo electric drive, however, instead uses the large format lithium ion cells, about 100 each, developed and produced in Daimler subsidiary Li-Tec, assembled into batteries at Deutsche ACCUmotive, and mated to an electric motor developed by the Bosch Daimler joint venture in Hildesheim. According to the latest rumors, Tesla may come into the picture again for the fourth generation, expected around 2016, and perhaps also some mass produced modules shared with smart partner Renault Nissan to reduce manufacturing cost and ensure mass production quality and refinement.

Tesla also produced the drivetrain for about 500 A-Class electric vehicles, as a precursor to the B-Class electric vehicle you mentioned.

These GCF threads may offer more insights: :)

@Sunny you got schooled twice

@Sunny you got schooled twice

You should try reading comprehension. How is what Wolf saying contradicting anything I said? Mercedes is buying stuff from Tesla and putting it in their cars. Which is exactly the point I was making except even more so than I knew. I thought it was limited to just electric B class. But apparently it is also A class and now next gen Smart as well - not that, that golf cart really matters, so thanks to @Wolfgang for sharing that.

^lol its so easy to get you upset.

All this started when aziz from bulgaria decided to let us know that BMW has the best gearbox.. as if it is something to cheer about when the damn thing is bought off a shelf.

Then he goes on to admit in the end that all they do is optimize it well with their engines, and i really think he pulled it out of his ass that it shifts smoother and faster in a BMW than let's say an audi or whatever else that uses the 8speed ZF. @mini_cooper4 back it up with some facts and figures!.

Now when it comes to you.. you decided to jump in and belittle my post which is a damn fact that the transmission is a outsourced ZF product nothing more nothing less.
But you just HAD to drag Mercedes in this, i didn't.. and you say that i make everything personal?
And what does outsourcing of CF or hybrid tech..or actually ANYTHING have to do with this thread, which is about fuggin transmissions?
Ask yourself that!

OR did you think you were sharing some knowledge that no one else knows? that .. hold on (shock and awe face on!!) ALL MANUFACTURERS OUTSOURCE!!!

So come again with something else than obvious facts and wishes to belittle my perfectly fact related post.
Then i MIIIGHT stop getting under your skin, ( probably not though, cause its to much fun)

I think this is now the 3rd time you got schooled in this thread, and your a pretty clever man, it doesn't happen to you often.
Further proof that you got in this discussion with nothing to add other than de weaponize my response to the one who thinks its amazing that BMW bought a ZF and managed to get it work smoothly with their engines. aka mini_cooper!

PS
aziz said that BMW had the best transmission PERIOD.. so i had to go PDK on his ass.. so he came around and said that he should have written single clutch.
blame him!

As a consumer, how the does it matter if it is bought off a shelf? I rather have a better part that is outsourced in my car than a mediocre one that is developed internally. But that is me, may be you are different.

I just pointed out everyone outsources in the car industry and and everyone has priorities what they outsource vs develop internally. If you, for whatever inadequacy you suffer from, found that "belittling", sorry can't help you there.

^ I did not say that it is an issue with me that they buy it off a shelf, more or less everyone does that (Besides MB and even they do it in some cases). The problem is just that they should not be commended for a product they did not create..
So like you said as a consumer its great to have the best, but i also commend Mercedes for still making their own transmissions, as they pioneered automatic shifting in cars..i like that they keep with tradition, and i see them trying. No one knows yet how this 9G will do. but the 7G is not up to the task anymore.
But then again it depends on what we want from our transmissions.
These days on forums due to the likes of Chris Harris it is automatically believed that the best transmission is the fastest.
That is not the case, in my MB i have 7G it is very retarded on manually actuated down/up shifts.. but for my diesel E class it shifts extremely smoothly..and keeps the consumption down. So it does the job very well.
Like you said...if you want to go super fast..get a Dual clutch, like the PDK.

The battering from media against 7G tronic is often that its slow to react to input. I have never heard about it not being smooth enough.

I expect Mercedes to make competitive transmissions for a long time to come, they have the know-how unlike many others.

Now to your second point, like i said; if you REALLY think you was telling us something new or a industry secret by stating that manufacturers outsource for different components.. then either you think very highly about yourself..or you think the rest of the forum is full of retards.

Pick one! :D

Damn guys keep it serious! No fun intended!

EDIT: Couldn't resist:
Fcuk it :D
Artistico... what does MB's famous ABC have to do with ZF!? A stranger on the street whispered to my ear that they co-developed it and manufactured it for Benz... that might very well apply to MBC... which as Magic as it is... is simply ABC v2 and again by ZF :D
Biatch! Let's ruin the thread completely!

Guys, you understand the ZF transmission is the same dang box for everyone that's using it? The ONLY difference is how each individual company decides to tune it. There is no 'It's better in the BMW then it is the Audi'. It's the same gearbox. Unless ZF is having a competition with itself and it wants to know which one of it's own gearboxes that probably came off the same assembly line, probably manufactured back to back, and is playing with itself.....wait, that came out completely wrong!!!

The MCT and 7G Tronic are both very quick transmissions. Mercedes just needs to nail down the software tuning. Hell, Mercedes needs to fix the their DCT lag too. It's all just software tuning though. The boxes themselves are lightning quick. I'm also waiting for Mercedes to put an awesome name on their DCT box like Porsche and their PDK, and BMW with their M-DCT.

Lol i know this..and it is great.. you know that the biggest Mercedes innovations like ABS,ESP,Airbags and what not all are co developments with the likes of Bosch,ZF borgwarner and so on.. And who cares..its great.. they CO DEVELOP!
Like porsche did the PDK ..and they get EXCLUSIVITY for it..

What BMW did is what Hot Ice wrote above, they use the same damn box ZF made on THEIR OWN.. and thus sells it to ANYONE who likes one.
You can buy one for your gocart project..lol

Do you understand the difference?

THIS!

PS
AMG SPEEDSHIFT..isn't that awesome enough? :D

I dont care who makes the gearbox but one thing for sure. BMW is getting all (most) the praise and positive reviews when it comes to gearbox and not Audi or Mercedes. So the gearbox in BMW is obviously better than the competiton right now, blame it on the software or whatever you like but fact remain, its still the best one out there..so BMW's way to see how a gearbox should behave in a car is better than Audi and MB.

Who said BMW has the best gearbox? show me..
And also it sis not whatever you want to blame it on.. IT IS THE SOFTWARE and the mating with the amazingly good BMW engines..that make them have the edge.
Physically the gerabox is the SAME.. as it is in a 7er as it is in a VW ..

Damn how hard can it be to understand something so simple!

@mini_cooper4 stop writing songs in class..with visions of more slutty videos.. pay attention aziz! :D

Show you? I read various magazines. Sorry you dont read the same. How hard can it be to understand simple things, its a software no other have which makes BMW's gearbox the best.

^ no i don't read the same magazines you do.. most men don't

Im fed up with this discussion..yes BMW has the best gearbox..which they bought off a shelf.. go have a celebration!

All the nasty dirty text messages you sending me. Surely you read the same.

I was fed up before it started, thats why I wrote one simple post about it. You guys started this fanboy pissing contest several pages back , no need for it when we all know BMW use the best gearbox (go read reviews)..just deal with it.
